A Letter To The Editor 12-7-11 Dr. Brent Fox Office Closed?

Dr. Brent Fox's office called me to cancel my appointment for today. He is a pain management doctor. The secretary diadem he can't write scripts until maybe Monday but maybe not. I asked if I should be concerned and looking for another doctor. Her reply was that might not be a bad idea. Any chance you can find out what is going on?

I received a message earlier telling me that Dr. Brent Fox Pain Management Office on Milford Street had been raided. Salisbury News has NOT confirmed this. In fact, when we attempted to check with Law Enforcement, no one could confirm or deny it.

It is a shame a small number of doctors in Salisbury are either abusing drugs or illegally selling them. Throw them in jail

Is that the same office Dr. Ben Tacheron is in?

No, not the same office. The bad thing is, the ppl who really need the pain meds are going to pay in the long run. There are drs who you can pay a good amount of cash to and they will write whatever you want. Dr Fox isn't one of those doctors. At least I don't think so. If he is giving pain meds to people who have a reason to need them and they are doing illegal things with them, how is that his fault. He can't control what people do when they leave his office. His office does random pill counts drug screenings everytime you have an appt or pick up scripts. If things aren't in order, he cuts you off. So, what more can he do?

Used to be. Not for over a year now.

is this for real i have been seeing dr fox for 6 months i am very concerned as i have been cutting down to get off meds but i am very worried

Until all of this gets sorted out, I would call my primary physician's office and make them aware of the situation. If you need meds refilled, then the primary care physician can step in until another pain management doctor can be found. I'm sure that all of the physicians in the area will be aware of this and will assist any patients who need it until you find a new doctor.

I don't know Dr. Fox and I certainly don't support the illegal or unethical prescribing of controlled medication however, in response to Anonymous 3:02 PM's comment, what do you know about the disease of Addiction? By you post, the answer is obviously nothing. Do yourself a favor, open a book and educate yourself. You will appear less ignorant as a result.

I was a patient of Dr. Fox until 2 months ago when my HMO dropped him abruptly. I was referred to him by my PCP. Luckily, I was transferred to another pain management doctor. I could tell by some of the people waiting in that office that something was a little fishy. Obviously, there were people who went to him for a real reason, but there were those who were getting pills to support a habit and he prescribed them very easily. I liked DR. Fox and this is just my observation, but on one of my appointments, he seemed a little out of it. I know that this is going to cause a lot of people stress, and good luck to you all.

I have been apatient there and due to my ins. company I am unable to see him. And yes he was still doing random pill counts and on my last visit I was urine tested even though I can no longer see him. And no not all primary care will help, my primary care said no he won't fill a script at all, so I have been suffering not only with cronic lower back pain but acute and sudden withdrawl. I believe he did all that was possible to weed out the bad apples! Now the many have to suffer AGAIN because of the few!! Just try to make an appt. with a local pain mgmt. doctor...good luck! I may have to go to Balt., Annapolis area to find one. Thanks to those few I have to suffer pain and added expense to get the treatment I need!

And yet this same agency is laundering tens of millions for drug cartels? They always screw with the little guy to make it look like they are doing their job, but in the meantime, back on the farm...

I have an aunt who was seeing him after her second overdose we contact the state and turned him in. She does not have any pain and was using him to get medications and was never drug tested. She shops doctors and his office and another pain doctor in Delaware were seeing the same patients some in the same day and yes his office knew this was happening since we contacted both doctors had my aunt sign a release and still nothing. We did this over a year ago when she first overdoesed on meds the Doctors gave her. The second time was in August and the hospital even contacted the state once we showed them all the documentation we had!!! This was a little to late!!

8:27 Who are you to judge if and how much pain your aunt or anyone else is in? Are you saying that I should judge if you take aspirin for a headache or ankle sprain and as to how much discomfort it is for you? Your Aunt's overdose, tragic it is, was nobody else's fault. She made a choice...a bad one, but her choice. Not the doctor's or the pharmacist who filled those scripts!!

Some people do not understand the mind of an addict. If you are prescribed opiate painkillers for a few months and even if you take them as prescribed, you will become physically addicted. If you stop them abruptly, you will go through withdrawal. Some people will do anything they can to prevent withdrawal. If is not a nice feeling. Unfortunately, they become pretty good at lying. There are also people who are prescribed pain meds and don't take them. Instead, they sell them. Some of those pills go for 5, 10 and up to 50 dollars each on the street. Dr. Fox did take precautions, but there is no stopping an addicted person. They will lie, steal and cheat. Some of you would not believe who is walking around today addicted to drugs.

If she overdosed it is obvious she took drugs no? If she was in hosp. they drew blood, no? Why would a drug test be needed if she overdosed on DRUGS?

Sounds like you aunt needs to be the one locked up, not the doctor's who believed her lies and did what he thought was his job.

Unless that is proved otherwise.

You already admitted your aunt was in the wrong getting the pills,(opinion or fact will be decided later) and not taking medication properly, (overdose) so right now the finger of guilt is pointing squarely at her until proved otherwise.

I know it's getting rare, but in this country you are still considered innocent until being proved guilty.

We already have one guilty party here, albeit judged by you, I'll wait until the trial is over until I condemn the doctor.

9:57 Anon,

You don't know what you're talking about.
My neighbor has a shoulder injury. She was sent for pain management. She only weighs approx. 120lbs and she was given Oxycodone for the pain. She OVERDOSED with her second dose. She took one the first night at bedtime and was fine. When she took the second one at lunchtime the next day, the ambulance had to be called because she had ovedosed. A count was done to find she had taken TWO of the pills in a 21 hour time frame.
She went back to the doctor and they prescribed her a different pain medication. That one overdosed her as well 2 days later!
The paramedics stated that with her weight, she should have only been on something like 2MG, but she was prescribed 15MG! Not her fault!
So, before you spout off and accuse someone else of "making a bad choice", perhaps you should be a little more sympathetic!

10:38, as you stated..."She took 2 in 21 hrs", her overdose was accidental. The other woman, 'aunt', was drug seeking! An addict who overdosed because she took more than was prescribed! There is a big difference. And yes I do know what I am talking about! I am a recovering addict and go to pain mgmt. for three ruptured disk in my back. I take my meds as prescribed with no problems. And in 18 months have had 1 change in dosage. It is a choice to seek help or continue on a path of self destruction and slow suicide...been there done that!! My choice was to live!!

my spouse was seeing dr fox. he was prescribing him oxycodone, and he would come home telling me that he told him to take one 15mg and if that didnt work to take another one 30 mins, later. I know that he was receiving 120 pills a month, and we have seen many drs, and for my spouses problem, that there was nothing else that can be done other than deal with it. my spouse has an amputated finger, and he was receiving oxycodone? Who the hell needs 120 of those pills in a month?

I saw Dr. Fox for the first time 3 weeks ago. My original Pain Management doctor was closing his practice and moving away so I was referred by my Primary Care Physician to Dr. Fox. Upon my first visit, he described to me what he knew of my condition (he had obviously read my file and reviewed my records) and discussed several options in regards to continued treatment. His treatment plan was a combination of medication and physical therapy. He even discussed new procedures that may be available in the near future that could possibly help me. I suffer from Degenerative disc disease and arthritis. The surgery to correct my pain only has a 60% chance of success and would keep me off my feet for 6 months, maybe a year. Dr. Fox explained all of this to me while using charts and skeletal models etc. to make sure I understood. I found him to be very thorough and professional. He also discussed the dangers of the medication that I was taking because he wanted to make sure that I understood everything related to my care. I was thrilled to have found Dr Fox and now I don't know what I am going to do. I hope he is exonerated and can get back to taking care of people.

Does anyone know what to do at this point. Other pain management docs won't take you unless you can bring pharmacy records (no problem) medical records (I have) referral from your general practitioner (PROBLEM) I can't get an appt til the end of January. You need the docs note to carry in to the pain doctors office. You also need a current MRI or CAT SCAN and Doc Foxes notes for past six months. They're not even at the office, mail boxes are full. No one calls back. UGHHHHHH.........

Does anyone have an update on this? My husband has been seeing him for over a year and heard the office was closed. He saw an employee who stated that they would reopen Tues 12/26. He needs his records to transfer to another office and no one answers the phone, calls back or even answers the door when he goes there. We've called the Attorney General's office to report them since they cannot withhold medical records.

Some people that r talking trash because they know someone that has been to fox or has a complaint cuz someone they know has been to him and has over dosed or u think he is over prescribing meds tot certain patients...do u all have a degree in medicine? R u in the room when the patient is telling him how much pain they r in? Probably not! There r addicts that r still in very real pain. Then there r alot of patients who have tries everything including surgeries and alternatives to meds and there is no cure for their condition...what r they supposed to do? Alot of the people that go to pain management r in constant pain ..the kind of pain most never experience ...the people that don't know this kind of pain you are lucky and blessed and im happy for you bit there r those of us in real pain and who r u to judge us or the doctor that has finally listened to us. Fox cares and he cares for some people that other doctora may not have taken the time to c or to listen to. He does his research. And his office staff diligently try to weed out the lyars and those who abuse their conditions to get meds. He and his staff get yelled at and screamed and threatened because of their policies because they try hard to keep patients happy and at the same time picking out the ones who r abusing ...these r good people that r trying to help those who need it and to those who are abusing nd complaining you should all shut the rumors and the exaggeration s down because u r fueling a fire that should never have started. Half the people making claims r just patients who r angry cuz they got caught and cut off (some people have been wrongly cut too, fro them I'm sympathetic )and the other half of the complainers don't even know fox his staff or his policies..so just shut up!!! AND THERE R PEOPLE WHO ACTUALLY NEED 120 OF THOSE THINGS A MONTH ...THAT'S FOR THE WOMAN WHO ASKED WHY HER HUSBAND NEEDED THAT MICH FOR AN AMPUTATED FINGER! HAVE U EVER CUT OFF A FINGER? IT HURTS! HAVE U EVER HAD BONE ON BONE IN YOUR JOINTS OR BEEN BENT OVER IN PAIN? I HOPE U NEVER KNOW THE PAIN AND I HOPE ALL THAT R AFFECTED DON'T LOSE THEIR DOCTOR BEXUASE OF PEOPLE WHO MAKE SNAP DECISION S!

Dr Fox helped me with my MS pain and Degenerative disc. I was not notified, ai tried to fill my January prescription on the 2nd, and it was rejected! No answer at Dr Fox. Alternate pain mgmnt Dr taking appts for mid-July! I need my medical records. I did a little research and contacted the doctor who signed his suspension at DHMH, and also the deputy director at the Board Of Physicians. Waiting to hear from them on how they were looking out for his patiients when they acted so abrumptly. These people are supposed to be protecting us. I feel like I have been dumped to the curb by these government agencies.

TO ALL PATIENTS OF DR. FOX. ...I AM ONE OF THE PATIENTS WHO IS SUFFERING BECAUSE OF THIS INCIDENT. IF U CALL HIS OFFICE THEY WILL NOT ANSWER BUT IF U LEAVE A MESSAGE THEY SOIL TRANSFER TOUR RECORDS, LEAVE THEM THE INFO ON WHERE TO SEND TO. EVERYONE SAYS THAT YOUR PRIMARY WILL FILL YOUR SCRIPT (BUT THEY PROB WONT ) . ALL OF THE PAIN Management DOCTORS R FILLING FASTER THAN THEY CAN BOOK APPT ..SO HONESTLY GET YOURSELF ON A LIST. HOPEFULLY FOX WILL B CLEARED (IF THERE IS ANY KIND OF JUSTICE THE COURTS WILL C THAT HE IS NOT WHO PEOPLE R MAKING HIM OUT TO BE) YOUR BEST BET IS TO TRY TO FIND A DOCTOR A LITTLE FARTHER AWAY CUZ ALL THE ONES NEAR SALISBURY,BERLIN. ETC R EITHER BOOKED, OR NOT ACCEPTING NEW PATIENTS. THE LOCAL HOSPITALS AND HEALTH DEPTS R JUST GOING TO GIVE U A PAPER THAT HAS OTHER PAIN Management DOCS ON IT. SO ITS PROBLY A WASTE OF TIME, MONEY AND HOPES TO GO TO THEM. AND IF You R JUST AN ADDICT TRYING TO GET HIGH, THEN DO THOSE OF US THAT R ACTUAL PATIENTS A FAVOR AND STOP TAKING OUR APPOINTMENTS AND WASTING THE DOCTORS TIME. CUZ HONESTLY ITS NOT FAIR TO THOSE OF US WHO REALLY NEED A DOCTOR AND ITS NOT FAIR TO DOCTORS EITHER. IF U ALL(ADDICTS ) KEEP FLOODING THE DOCTORS OFFICES THAT R KIND ENOUGH TO TAKE IN PATIENTS THAT HAVE GOTTEN STUCK IN THIS AWFUL SITUATION ...EVENTUALLY ALL THE DOCTORS WILL GET SHUT DOWN AND IT ISN'T FAIR. GOOD LUCK. LETS HOPE ALL GOES WELL WHEN FOX GOES TO HIS FINAL HEARING ...HE NEEDS OUR PRAYERS AND SUPPORT

Dr Fox went in front of the medical board on Tuesday, Jan 17th. His office is returning calls now, and the said they would hope to know something by the 20th. He explained to us what was going on at my husband's last appt. This all goes back to Priority Partners audit of his patient's records. Out of 14 files, he had cut off 9 patients for pill counts, drug screenings, and phone calls. The biggest problem was a patient who was gaining weight and dr fox kept asking her if there was any possibility she was pregnant. She kept telling him no. Well it turned out that she was pregnant all along and still getting narcotics. That was not the Dr's fault. She was the main problem in the whole investigation.
