Rick Perry, On Letterman Show, Blames Debate Gaffe On 'El Nino'

(CNN) -- After his infamous "brain freeze" that drew laughter and ridicule from his detractors, Texas Gov. Rick Perry poked fun at himself Thursday night while delivering the "Top Ten" list on CBS' "The Late Show with David Letterman."
Perry sauntered on stage smiling, clapped his hands and saluted the crowd before rattling off the "Top Ten Rick Perry Excuses." Among them:

No. 6: "You try concentrating with Mitt Romney smiling at you. That is one handsome dude!"

People are using this to poke fun at Perry, but really his gaffe is a symptom of someone who doesn't actually have a well-thought out policy for anything. He just crams talking points that have tested well right before the debate.

According to a doctor on Fox News, Perry just had a "brain freeze". Who among us have never suffered from one? I think he is doing a terrific job of laughing at himself. Something every one of us should try, instead of blaming others for our imperfections. He is not my first choice to be our next President but I do admire his handling of this.

Everyone makes mistakes and forgets somethings. Almost none are running for president. That said, the few times I have seen him on t.v. he comes across as a blathering idiot. (pardon the use of idiot but it fits in this case).

Do we really need or want, another guy from Texas in the white house? ( I know he was really from Ct.)

With all these numb skulls running, I think it's about time for Ralph Nader to show his face. Lol.

Herman Cain is basically a business man trying to run a country. Wasn't that tried before and he wasn't elected? (Ross Perot)

If we are to have serious leadership again, we have to get rid of corporate influence in politics. Limit or abolish special interest groups. Eliminate filibusters. Let the states run their states with minimal interference from the fed. Have the states vote on what the federal laws should be, based on the constitution.

Do not allow any spending if the money is not there to pay for it. Get rid of federal (and state) programs and agencies that are ineffective, wasteful and redundant.

If a country asks for our help, militarily or otherwise, let that country pay for it. Why does the U.S.A. have to foot the bill for helping with other nations troubles?

Put limits on contributions any and all candidates can accept. Hundreds of millions of dollars used to campaign for office would be better used for the programs already in existence that we have to pay for.

Have one law enforcement agency for domestic issues and one foreign agency for issues outside of our borders. No more agency competition and withholding of information from other agencies.

This has gotten rather long and I'm sure I have lost some or most of you. But these are just my common sense suggestions to have a better government that is manageable and answerable to the people.

We have lost that a long time ago and we need to get it back.

Their power is supposed to come from us and we have given them to much power. It is past time to reign them in and take back some of the power they have misused and abused.
