unfortunately i've had the priveledge of volunteering in a shelter.

i use the words "unfortunately" & "priveledge" to describe ti because it was both the most rewarding & the saddest thing i've ever done.

cleaning kennels for & playing with the most greatful creatures was amazing. they were so thankful for a bit of human interaction when most had been abandoned by the people who swore to love them forever. - AMAZING!

watching a perfectly healthy, friendly, loving animal being led away for the last time, just like the article said, thinking its playtime and being carried back out in a plastic bag to be stuck in a freezer. because his time was up and he just "wasn't cute enough" or "he wasn't young enough" for someone to love. - something that will stick with you forever.

That is so freaking sad, and mean. If you get a pet, it's for life. Not just when it's 'convenient'.
