Weather Sensor Installation Will Require Lane Closures On I-95

Newark -- The Department of Transportation (DelDOT) advises motorists that the northbound left lane and left center lane will be closed at the intersection of I-95 and Route 896 overpass near Newark. The work is scheduled to occur on Monday, October 24 beginning at 9 p.m. and ending at 5 a.m., pending weather. The rain date will be Tuesday, October 25.

On Wednesday, October 26 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., the southbound right lane and right center lane will be closed at the intersection of I-95 and Route 896 overpass. The rain date will be Thursday, October 26.

DelDOT's Transportation Management Center (TMC) utilizes a number of devices to track storms, including weather radar, pavement sensors, and forecasting services. The weather sensors will provide data on air and subsurface temperatures, wind speed and direction, precipitation type and intensity, visibility, relative humidity and barometric pressure. These components enable DelDOT to quickly mobilize our employees and equipment and get a head start on approaching storms.

You mean going outside is too low-tech for them? How about watching the local weather on TV? You don' need no stinkin' "sensor" to know if its snowing and some of it is getting on the roads....how about asking the State Police for their first hand, on-the-scene conditions information? All those indicators listed (barometric pressure, wind speed, etc., are EASILY found from other, less tax-intensive sources. WHO comes up with this crap?
