Obama Bows To Boehner; Jobs Speech Will Be September 8

In a retreat after an hours-long test of wills Wednesday, President Barack Obama agreed to deliver an address on jobs and the economy to a joint session of Congress on Sept. 8, yielding to House Speaker John Boehner, who had balked at Obama's request for a Sept. 7 speech.

Obama's address still gives him a grand stage to unveil his economic agenda, but it will compete with the opening game of the National Football League season — a conflict the White House wanted to avoid.

I couldn't agree more... When Boehner is gone he can't interfere with my football anymore. (tongue in cheek)

Obama is the one that will be screwing up the football game.
My hope is that NBC will broadcast the game as scheduled. Nobody will be watching Obama on the other channels.
Maybe Obama will get the message when he see his viewership ratings.
On second thought, Obama won't get it anyway.

Not sure if you know what tongue in cheek means but i won't focus on that.

Please read what went down again. Obama shot for Sept 7... Boehner wanted Sept 8th... NFL begins on Sept 8th... Please tell me which person is at fault in terms of competing with the NFL's opening day. Before you get into it (though you only would if you read the article) I'm not focusing on the politics behind it (Obama scheduling the same day as a Republican debate and Boehner scheduling the same day as the NFL). The politics say they don't want either side to view the other. All this is about who screwed with Obama moving his speech... Signs point to the guy who suggested it.

I gotta agree with a guy that commented on the actual article though.

" This was actually a mistake on Boehner's part. More people will now watch the speech about the "jobs plan" than would have before. It's pre-season, fourth game, and people can switch back and forth because football is a slow-moving game with a lot of commercials.

And it's doubly risky. If the Republican "debate" make Republicans look stupid --which happens rather frequently -- and the "jobs plan" speech is a big hit with the public, then things turn out in Obama's favor."

Not sure what he means about preseason but it's a theory
