The 26th amendment (granting the right to vote for 18 year-olds) took only 3 months & 8 days to be ratified! Why? Simple! The people demanded it. That was in 1971...before computers, before e-mail, before cell phones, etc.
Of the 27 amendments to the Constitution, seven (7) took 1 year or less to become the law of the land...all because of public pressure.
Congressional Reform Act of 2011
1. No Tenure / No Pension.
A Congressman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when they are out of office.
2. Congress (past, present & future) participates in Social Security. All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security system
and Congress participates with the American people. It may not be used for any other purpose.
3. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan, just as all Americans do.
4. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise. Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%.
5. Congress loses their current health care system and participates in the same health care system as the American people.
6. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people.
7. All contracts with past and present Congressmen are void effective 1/1/12. The American people did not make this contract with Congressmen.
Congressmen made all these contracts for themselves. Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, so ours should serve their term(s), then go home and back to
work.

I couldnt agree more. I wonder if anyone has seen any information on the proposed changes to the military retirement. Joe, you may want to look into this, as it's a huge change. They are taking the retirement away from those who put their lives on the line for our country, but not those who sit in DC for 4 years, and then collect a paycheck for the rest of their lives. The proposed changes have already caused an uproar among military communities, because people dont know what they are going to do after their 20 years in the military, to bridge the gap to 60, competing with 20year olds in the workforce at entry level positions...

Its takes a village to raise a child (not according to MY parents) and will take a revolution to break the hold these lying theiving leeches (senators and reps) have on us. They hold themselves above the law, above reproach, and worst of all, above the citizens they (supposedly) serve. There is no other hope for change.
Change #4 to read:
Congressional pay will be suspended when there is no operating budget in place, or during any government shutdown periods. No back pay will be received during times when their pay is suspended for non-performance of their duties.
Congressional pay rates may rise or fall as determined by the CPI, subject to a maximum of 3% either way.
Congress would never pass it in a million years.You are taking everything from them they work so little for. I agree with it but these arrogant people in Congress will probably not even bring it to the floor. One big reason is they will have to be on Obamacare health care. And who wants that?
I agree with Flerndip, would you vote for it,if you were in congress? I think it is time for the citizens to stand up and tell congress we are not going to take it anymore.
