While many have been awaiting such an announcement for many, many years, Bill Gordy is no longer in charge of the Volunteers. He resigned his position and the SFD is aggressively looking for his replacement from within.
This is a volunteer position and while we wish Bill Gordy well, the taxpayers can finally feel a sense of relief from the overspending and know the Good Ol' Boy system is finally done and over with.
Let's just hope the attention/funding now turns to the Salisbury Police Department instead.

This guy has been a terror in the FD. The games, back stabbing, protecting his retarded son and spending like his mercedes driving high society wife. There a lot of us who are so happy he is gone!
Bill, THANK YOU for your service. We disagreed and even butted heads at times but I never doubted your motives as being anything other than what you felt was in the best interest of the department. Time will show the good you did.
The clown that's accepting money under false pretences pretending to be a Fire Chief isn't qualified to sniff your turn out gear. You did the right thing disassociating yourself with his admininstration. GOOD LUCK - YOU'VE EARNED A BREAK!
I heard he quit because he is facing a major discrimination lawsuit at his business. Chief and City fathers didn't want this to affect the department or cause an investigation there too. May have been a good fireman but the world has changed and this kind of behavior will not be tolerated anymore even in Salisbury.
Sniff his turnout gear?? He never did anything to get it dirty. Simpson should of got rid of Gordy day one.
Joe, I was never a big fan of Gordy's, but this guy named Jeff Simpson who should have never been hired is much worse than Gordy. Watch out, you might get what you wished for.

Joe if you want a bigger story you need to pay attention to what is going on in the fire department now. It is much worse moral wise than it ever was when Gordy and Hoppes were in charge. And this guy they hire now as fire chief is no chief and never has been.
NOW its time for BRYAN RECORDS to step up to the plate..HE NEEDS TO BE THE CHIEF for both Paid and Volly..Who would you all rather look up to. RECORDS has the experience and a local who knows who to run things and get things done!!! There is nobody else there I would rather look up to for guidance and leadership. Lets make it happen. Come on Bryan. Push the envelope and step outside your box. You might find a rewarding experience and a change we all need.

In my opinion we finally have a Fire Chief who has been on the front lines and lives by accountability. The citizens of
Salisbury should be proud that
we finally have a true leader.
Here's my question about the new Fire Chief.
Has he relocated his Family to Salisbury and have they purchased a home IN THE CITY?
It is my understanding his Family still lives in Virginia and he's only renting an apartment and traveling back to Virginia in a City vehicle with City Taxpayer gas.
Please prove me wrong.
Believe he does go back to Virginia but in his personal vehicle, not in city car on city gas. Not sticking up for him, just fact. Think he rents in Salisbury.

jeff simpson isn't even certified or qualified to drive the ambulance in Salisbury but he got hired as the fire chief. What does that tell you about our elected Mayor. I can't blame all of this on Ireton either, Debbie Campbell pushed to get simpson hired as a favor to a friend.
