Vice President Biden To Discuss Administration Effort To Develop And Deploy A Nationwide, Interoperable Public Safety Broadband Network

WASHINGTON – On Thursday, June 16th, Vice President Biden will deliver remarks to representatives from public safety, state and local officials, and private industry as well as issue a report detailing the Administration’s effort to develop and deploy a nationwide, interoperable public safety broadband network. To kickoff the event, Vice President Biden will be joined by Assistant to the President for Homeland Security and Counterterrorism, John Brennan; Attorney General Eric Holder; Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano; Federal Communications Commission Chairman Julius Genachowski and Governor Martin O’Malley. New York City Police Department Commissioner Ray Kelly will also participate. This event, hosted by the White House, is being held in coordination with the Departments of Commerce, Homeland Security, and Justice.

On February 10th, 2011, President Obama announced his support for a wireless broadband network to afford public safety agencies with greater levels of effectiveness and interoperability. For more information on this announcement, click HERE.
