Less than 48 hours after President Barack Obama announced the death of the man who orchestrated the 9/11 attacks, one new poll shows the president’s approval rating has jumped up by nine points, with Americans’ opinions of his handling of terrorism reaching the highest point during Obama’s presidency.
The overnight poll, conducted by The Washington Post and the Pew Research Center, found that 56 percent of respondents approve of Obama’s performance as president, up nine points from similar polls last month. That boost includes a substantial bump of 10 points among independents.

what, is there an election coming up or something?
All this leads back to the counter-terrorism policies that were put in place in 2001 by G. W. Bush!!!
Let's see what happens to those poll numbers if Obama does not release pictures of Osama Bin Laden dead.
Well done Mr. President, well done!
Obama has just been reelected, folks, thanks to the mainstream media fawning all over him.
With or with out this, he will be re-elected!! Just wait and see. Start focusing on the facts.
4:09 don't be so negative. there is plenty more time for him to dig his own hole. remember, he has NOTHING to offer except failing policies, higher prices everywhere, unemployment and let's not forget his poor decision making skills (flip - flopper). we can do so much better than "o".
Those poll numbers are bogus!
Obama accomplished the mission Bush didn't.
I was going to drive to DC and personally show my admiration for killing Bin Ladin but I can't afford to because of the gas prices. Maybe someone else that has a horse can ride there and show their admiration.
4:00, you are correct. Well done, indeed. I am not at all an Obama admirer, but one must give credit where credit is due. Yes, Bush did have the plan to take Obama "dead or alive" during all of his presidenc after 9/11, but Obama executed it. He is deserving of the credit. And his bounce in approval ratings will be only temporary, but it was certainly expected. This happens to every President: When he achieves something of this importance, especially something to raise the public spirit, he will see his approval ratings go up, sometimes dramatically. The euphoria over Obama's leaving will be short-lived, and Obama will once again sink in the polls. Let him revel in the moment.
Correction to 9:28--Obviously I meant to write in the last sentence "The euphoria over OSAMA'S leaving...." The euphoria over Obama's leaving will be felt on Jan. 20, 2013.
The reason for the season to take out Osama was due to the low numbers for Obama from the voters. It is all about political gain; not the USA...
Obama had nothing to do with this, other than saying okay to the mission. All the hard work put in by the men and women in the military and the alphabet intelligence agencies are the ones that we should give credit to - and the means that they collected the information were policies and strategies that were put into place by Bush's administration. Obama wanted to close Gitmo, the very source of info that started all of this. Obama just happened to be the guy in control when all the pieces were put together. If something had gone wrong he and his administration would be putting the blame on the military and the intelligence community, so why is he getting any credit after they did all the hard work.
