Highest level in eight months; troubling sign ahead of big April employment report
WASHINGTON — The number of Americans applying for unemployment benefits unexpectedly surged last week to the highest level in eight months, a troubling sign a day ahead of the government's report on April employment.
The Labor Department said Thursday that the 43,000 spike in applications to a seasonally adjusted 474,000 last week was largely the result of unusual factors, including spring break layoffs and the introduction of an emergency benefits program.

As Obama throws another dancing party at the White House
So much for that hopey-changey-porkulus stuff....we're screwed!
funny how you guys jump all over the weekly numbers but when a story of long-term good news pops up, you have nothing to say.
Hey 12:51, if you were unemployed, you would be upset with the economy too. The fact that you are not tells me that you are probably a Government employee. Further, what exactly long-term good news do you have to share? I'm not aware of any.
12:51 Let me know when that happens!! They way I see it, things have sucked for 2 years now.
Exactly what long term good news have you heard that we rest of us hasn't?
Low gas prices?? Increasing jobs? No foreclosures? ......
12:51 it's because those of us with common sense recognize bulls**t when we see or hear it. There IS NO recovery. It's all a lie to help Obama bring his approval numbers up. Look around you. Open your eyes. These fuel prices aren't the result of "speculators" as Obama says. Nor are they pushed up by OPEC as Trump proclaims. No No No. They are a direct result of the deflation of the American dollar. Most of us knew it would happen the first time the printed more money for the "Quantitative easing 1" now they are proceeding with QE2. What do you think will happen? Hmmmm. Let's think really hard now. Ummmm. Hmmmmm. Hey I got it! The dollar will deflate even more making it take more of those little dollars to buy the same things? YAY!!!! You get the prize! a ten dollar gift certificate so that you can go next fall and smell the fumes coming from the gas pump - cause thats all you will get for ten dollars come fall...a sniff. But Wait - there's more! What about the food costs that are going up but the White House refuses to address caused directly by the increase in fuel costs AND the shrinking dollar? Uh Oh! Look out! When people can no longer afford food and fuel to go to work how will we live? Don't worry! After they suck every last penny you have from you, those that do the sucking will have everything they need and you and I will have nothing. Pretty simple. We cannot continue to borrow and print money to pay our debts. It simply won't work in the long run. There is no recovery in sight. Just kicking the can further down the road until it can be kicked no further. Stock up now on food and supplies because you have about 6 months to prepare before the S**t starts to hit the fan.
Those of us fortunate enough to have a job saw our investments gain back much of their losses. Companies have increased hiriing and will continue to do so as demand picks up. And oil shot up from around $40/barrel to over $100 under Bush and has fluctuated largely between around 90 and 120 since. Seems to me under your logic, it was Bush who sent the price up (not my theory though).

"It is Bushes fault"
You libtards are priceless!
Idiot at 5:10, notice I said that the "its bush's fault" is not my theory but following 2:27's logic, would be a valid conclusion.
Another Idiot saying Bush again.
Get a life will ya!
