Maryland watermen will be able to catch more female crabs this fall.
The Department of Natural Resources announced the change today, saying fisheries managers determined the increase won't negatively impact the population, which is rebounding after a sharp decline.
The daily female catch limit between Sept. 1 and Nov. 10 will be increased two bushels to 12 for those with a Limited Crab Catcher License.
Licenses allowing larger catches will see comparable increases. The department had also been considering changing the season to take advantage of higher June crab prices. Harvesting of female crabs is prohibited June 1-15 and Nov. 11-Dec. 15.

"See that guy on the boat...Talk to him on how the crabs are going to be this year. I don't trust the Gobment studies. They are manipulated by the liberal bias funded project.

Spot on, Anon. Spot on.
Both of you are absolutely right in my opinion! Government officials know nothing of how it really is on the water. They go off crab reports which I know for a fact are reported incorrectly by some individuals. Ask a waterman how the crab is and he will tell you the facts because he experiences it everyday. Not some pencil-pusher who experiences everyday through paper work and PowerPoints. I can't stand government. Everything starts with good intentions but ends up a catastrophe.
