Frederick commissioners present balanced budget
$448 million spending plan based on cuts, reductions and layoffs; no tax increases
The Frederick Board of County Commissioners today released a balanced $448 million budget proposal for fiscal 2012 that features no increases in taxes, but significant cuts in programs and services, and employee layoffs."These budget decisions were very difficult, but tough times ... [require] tough decisions," said Commissioners' President Blaine R. Young (R), who thanked all county employees who lost their jobs for their hard work and service.
The budget proposal calls for significant reductions in the operations of many county departments, including the elimination of 38 staff positions, a $305,069 reduction in the funding for non-profit agencies, as well as the relinquishment of the Frederick County Head Start program, which saves $2.3 million.

Their tax rate is high. Glad we live in a county that has nearly the lowest tax rate of anyone around, and now the services to match.

You had better do a double take. Wicomico is one of only two Counties left that have an unsold inventory tax on businesses.
We also have a 10% -(State Max)- real property assessment cap. Talbot has 0%. Moreover, Wicomico's piggyback tax is 60% - the highest in the State.
Now all said and done - what do you think about Wicomico's low tax scenario now.
You had better go back and brush-up on Wicomico history review before you publish on this site again. SBYnews has some very astute readers.
The best thing the City of Salisbury can do is to get rid of that new FAR CHEEF!! He is costing tax payers a fortune. Spending money like it's not his(Sarcasm).
How much did that grievance hearing cost tax payers today? Thousands of dollars for attorney's fee's and wasted time of fire department employees and other departments.
Four people have left the Salisbury Fire Department in less than 2 weeks and many more are looking for other jobs. These are good people to.
Jim Ireton and the 5 City council members you made a mistake on this guy.
