I don't know where to turn and I want to apologize for bothering you with the problem that I am having. Almost two years ago my husband and brother in law bagged two nice deer that they wanted to have mounted. They took the deer to Jess Davis, Field of Dreams Taxidermy, which is in Allen, MD. He was close to our home and his price was reasonable. The guys were told over and over that he was working on it and that it should be ready soon. Well it is now December 2010 and they still don't have the mounts. We finally got him on the phone tonight and he told us that he was robbed and that my husband and brother in law were named as suspects. This is the first that we heard of them being suspects. My husband has talked to DNR several times with no prevail. We have paid for the mounts in full in the amount of $225 for each mount. We have told him before that we would take a loss on the money we just wanted the antlers. My husband bagged the deer with our then 6 year old daughter. This was trophy was very special to him because our daughter was with him when he got it and it was a record deer at that time. We're just wondering what our options are at this time, if you could suggest anything. We don't have much money so we don't know what our next move should be.
Like I said I hate to bother you with our problem, but I was hoping that you could help point me in the right direction to help resolve this issue. Attached are a few pictures of the deer that both my husband and brother in law got in December 2008.

My son killed his first buck last year and took it to Jess Davis to mount. He played the same games with us that he's playing with you. However, when he told my husband that he had been robbed he did not tell him that he was a suspect. I feel that if he was robbed (i personally don't feel that he was) it was probably someone that he has stollen from himself. My husband was able to recove $45 of $150 that we paid Jess Davis. This man has robbed some many people and DNR says there is nothing they can do. Face it you've lost your deer and you'll never see your money again. More so than losing the money is my son has nothing to show for the first buck he killed. Good Luck.

I've found that these guys are not to be trusted. This is a stab in the back for good people who this service. Hunters who get a trophy may never see this in their lifetime. Take em to court my friend. You have that right , at least now , may change during the power struggle that Obamas has.

district court is only $15 or so to file the complaint
he is in breach of contract or something
also...he is turning these so called robberies into the an insurance company...if so is it a false statement to a police officer you have to contact police if you are robbed to turn in an insurance claim...etc etc

Report bad business dealings to the Consumer Protection Division of the Attorney General's Office and to the Better Business Bureau. File complaints, folks. When you do, you help not only yourself but other innocent people. Enough complaints on file and they get investigated and licenses to operate yanked. Fines in some cases. If really bad, criminal charges get filed.
Also find out what business licenses he has to hold from where (state, county, any certifications of the trade to operate) and file a complaint with them, too.
You may not get back what you lost, but like a brave rape victim, you may prevent it from happening to someone else. And there is satisfaction in that.
Glad the letter writer has a photo to remember the occasion by.

JP of all the comments on here yours is the stupidist. This isn't even about deer mounts if you read it at all. It is about a thief that continually steals and lies and misleads people and in this case he is taking a part of a memory away from a father and his daughter. There are to few parents involved with their children and sharing experiences like this with them. To each his own Jp but it's not your place to criticize anyone. We can't all be ballarinas. Now while I'm at it I need to say I hope Mr. Davis you do cheat and steal from the right redneck someday.
