Westboro Baptist, which is at center of Supreme Court case, also pickets military funeral
A church that pickets funerals to protest what it calls American immorality says its members will be picketing the service this Saturday for Elizabeth Edwards, who died of breast cancer on Tuesday.
Based in Topeka, Kan., the Westboro Baptist Church said it would be outside the Edenton Street United Methodist Church in Raleigh, N.C., during the funeral for the former wife of one-time vice presidential candidate John Edwards.
Westboro members, led by the Rev. Fred Phelps, have also picketed military funerals to make their point that U.S. deaths in Afghanistan and Iraq are punishment for Americans' immorality, including tolerance of homosexuality and abortion.
Signs like "Thank God for Dead Soldiers" have been raised at military funerals, and the church announced its latest action with a press release titled "God hates Elizabeth Edwards."

Someone's going to have enough of that cult one of these days, and they will probably meet their maker sooner than they anticipate. I would love to see that happen to those hatemongers.

That is horrible they should not be allowed to picket at funerals. Goverment needs to make a new law out of respect for the deceased that peole can not picket funerals.That is awful!!Rest in Peace Elizabeth.

I can't believe this church group...they talk about immorality..what do you think they are doing?? they are harrassing innocent people...if it were for our soliders fighting for our freedom they wouldn't be able to open their ugly mouths....and she didn't do anything i agree her husband is a piece of work but she had nothing to do with his crap...the admendment has freedom of speech..not harrassment!!!

i'm sure the law enforcement can make them picket far enough away that it won't be too disturbing. these people aren't true christians. they have so much hate in their hearts. this is NOT what Jesus would do.....

There is a lot of hate that hides behind religion.
I won't go to that church. You can't go to Heaven with hate in your heart, God does not tolerate that. So what makes them think that putting up signs that GOD Hates whatever is going to bring them closer to him? If your a Christian you are a representative of GOD. Actions like that make non-believers think " Well if that is how Christians act I don't want any parts." Or "They're no different from the rest of us." Furthermore I believe the Eastern Shore is probably one of the most sane places in America. You always hear of some craziness going on in different states or Cities, you never really hear bizarre stories around here.

I don't think they will be able to get too close. It would be great to see the Secret Service come in and throw them in jail. It is very sad that Elizabeth Edwards passed away. She truly was a brave individual for dealing with her husband's infidelity while facing cancer. I feel for her children. The last thing they need is this bunch of losers protesting outside of their mother's funeral. How sad.

Someone needs to protest outside of their church with signs that say "Fags love Fred Phelps" and "Fred Phelps wears ass-less chaps"
Faith is a funny thing. Each Faith, and sect thereof, will assert their monopoly on the truth.. and their proper interpretation thereof. Westboro's assertion is no different than any other faiths assertions... they are just more comfortable being d-bags about their specific slant....

I read an article about this church. Its a very small church and mostly family members make up its members. The church is represented in court by the Rev. Phelps duaghter. These people are way off their rocker. I know we are for freedom of speech and right to bear arms and many freedoms most take for granted, but these freedoms must be executed with respect to one another. Rev.Phelps and his cult are abusing the freedoms granted to us. The govornment should step in and take control of this situation. Its one thing if they write about their views in papers but protesting at the funerals is very disrespectful and unjust.

These people are crazy. I don't understand why they think God HATES people? I think they just want more media coverage. Shame on them for using Elizabeth Edwards' funeral for their disgusting ways. I was at the peaceful protest against them when they were at Virginia Tech. These people really do believe what they protest. Insanity is what I would call it. I think the media should protest them and not show their pictures or talk about them. BLACKOUT THE WBC!!
