It may seem odd that SbyNEWS would endorse someone for office with whom we have such fundamental disagreement on so many issues, but District 1 councilwoman Sheree Sample-Hughes is no ordinary politician. Sample-Hughes deserves re-election despite her faults and our strong agreement on many issues with her opponent, Republican Dave Goslee, Jr.Sample-Hughes supports a “modification” of the county’s revenue cap. This is equivalent to supporting higher taxes. She also supports the “land grab” – down zoning Wicomico ag lands and stripping farmers and large landowners of their property rights. That said, she is a woman of her word. When she was first elected four years ago she promised to reach out to her diverse constituency and stay in communication with them. This she has done.
In addition, the only reason ag lands have not already been down zoned is because she held to her word. While councilmen John Cannon, Bill McCain, and Dave MacLeod (along with county executive Rick Pollitt) were willing to “compromise” in order to get the camel’s nose of down zoning under the tent, Sample-Hughes held firm in her belief that a stronger approach to down zoning was necessary. She, along with her liberal colleagues, were wrong; but she held to her stated position. This should not only be respected, but we should be thankful that this allowed voters an opportunity to elect members this year who will not allow our farmers to be victims of government-sanctioned theft.
Goslee’s approach to county government is more in tune with our own. By all accounts, he is a good and honorable man. That said, Sample-Hughes’ seems to be more in tune with the needs and beliefs of her district. For these reasons, we believe that she has earned another term.

She was also instumental in getting the Delmar Elementary parking and pick area improved. She came out and saw for herself how dangerous the street was in front of the school with so many people dropping off and picking up kids in front of the school. Although still not a perfect situation, it is much better thanks to her help with changing the parking rules on the street.
All I ever hear Goslee say is we need to cut this or that, nothing positive. I'm Republican and I'm voting for Ms. Sample-Hughes.
she also came to a meeting with a letter with distortions and flat-out lies. by certain language that was used with in the letter, the entire audience knew she was a puppet and had no clue what was going on.
