Baltimore, MD (October 18, 2010) -- Top leaders in Prince George's County are rallying behind Governor Martin O'Malley in a new web video produced by the O'Malley-Brown campaign. In the video, filmed this morning at the Prince George's County Annual Ploughman and Fisherman Unity Breakfast, County Executive Jack Johnson, State's Attorney Glenn Ivey, Delegates Derrick Davis and Michael Vaughn, and Congresswoman Donna Edwards speak about Governor O'Malley's record of supporting Prince George's County in the areas of education, public safety, minority-owned businesses, and investing in community institutions like Prince George's Hospital.
The O'Malley administration invested $4.1 billion in Prince George's County public schools--a $1.1 billion increase over Bob Ehrlich--and increased school construction investments in the county by 67 percent. Since 2005, in Prince George's County, the number of Advanced Placements taken by students increased by 138%, while the number of exams with college mastery scores have increased by 50%. From 2006 to 2009, Prince George's County had a 19.9% reduction in its violent crime rate and a 15.7% reduction in its total crime rate. The O'Malley-Brown administration invested $39 million in Prince George's Community Hospital, compared to only $10 million under the previous administration.
This weekend the Washington Post reported on the importance of Prince George's County to the Maryland governor's race. The county is home to 401,125 Democrats--more than any other Maryland jurisdiction--according to the paper.
