Manipulated Jobs Report Misled Marylanders

ANNAPOLIS – The Maryland Republican Party has obtained a document showing the O’Malley Administration misled the public about Maryland’s faltering economy. A version of July Employment Situation Report that had been scrubbed from a government website proves the O’Malley Administration blatantly altered the report’s language to mislead Marylanders for political expediency. In reaction to obtaining the document, MD GOP Chairman Audrey Scott released the following statement:

“This newly obtained document shows Martin O’Malley has no regard for the 216,000 unemployed Marylanders. It’s now clear the government knew Maryland’s economy had faltered in July yet despite being caught red-handed; they deliberately withheld the information to benefit O’Malley’s reelection bid. Martin O’Malley’s failure to create a single job during his tenure as governor has clearly turned to desperation with the manipulation of official reports for political benefit. This sort of behavior is indicative of what happens when one Party controls government for 36 out of the last 40 years, as O’Malley believes our government agencies should serve as an arm of his reelection campaign. After another month of job losses in August, it’s clear the O’Malley Administration saw the writing on the wall in the July report and sought to hide the information to save his fledgling reelection bid.
