Low-Bidder Announced For Route 54 Improvements Project

Fenwick Island -- The Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) announces that Mumford & Miller Concrete, Inc., of Middletown, Delaware, is the low bidder for the Route 54 Improvements Project. For this project, the firm submitted a bid of $8,111,451.00, the lowest of four bids received.

Widening for a 14-foot wide center left-turn lane will improve the safety of the roadway, both for vehicular traffic as well as bicycles and pedestrians. Improvements will also include 6-foot wide bike lanes and 5-foot wide sidewalks. The Route 54 construction will extend from the intersection of Routes 20 and 54 east to the Mallard Lakes Development. This area was identified for safety improvements due to high development growth in the corridor over the last several years.

Construction will begin this fall and will be completed in approximately 627 calendar days.
