Such a sad, sad story. This has really upset me. This is the second local death this summer from a child on an ATV. My heart goes out to her family and friends. God bless them all.
I've also read about some terrible golf cart accidents that ended in the death of children locally too.

This is truely a sad, needless story. A child allowed to ride anything without a helmet is behond belief, with all of the information available today. I bought my neice a four wheeler about 5 years ago and the very first thing that i told her was, "you have that helmet on every time you get on this thing". If anyone ever catches you riding it, even if it's just a few feet, I'll sell it and you'll never ride it again, that's a promise. Your mother and your grandparents will be watching (they live next door) and tell me and that's it, it's over and gone. She always has it on when she comes out of the door before riding. And also, no horsing around and taking chances. Children will only do what they are allowed to do, adults shoulder most if not all responsibility for safety training. Several of my family members have wanted to ride my scooter without my helmet on their heads in the past. just out the road and back, they said. I live in Delaware, where helmets are not required. My response: No helmet, no ride, don't like it, tough. That was my dad and my brother. Dad laid her down at the end of the his road, tore up the bike, ripped his arm in a big way, but his mellon was intact. He still blames it on my bike, to this day 4 years later. He'll be 83 this year. it's a case of you can't make old dogs learn new tricks, you've got to make them do as you say. This is really a sad, sad story to me. May God bless the child and her family. Amen

Criminal charges need to filed against the responsible adults involved in this needless tragedy. An 11 year old on a 250cc?!? Isn't that illegal? Until consequences are imposed on irresponsible parents and family members this will continue to occur.
Yes, this is very sad and much hand wringing results, but where is the lesson learned if those responsible are not held accountable?

Driving a quad of that size by a child under 16 is illegal. However, it is a common main mode of transport for those under 16. But, honestly don't you think the death of a child is punishment enough for the "responsible adult?" You don't know the exact circumstances, but knowing the family involved, I can guarantee they are punishing themselves far more severely than any court system could. Get down off your soap box and show some respect for their grief.

i agree with canvasback!! I knew the family very well. I have a daughter that played softball with her. I cant beleave that some peps can be so mean at a time like this. Cassie was a wonderful child to be around. If you dont have anything nice to say, then dont leave a a comment on here them.

Cassie was a wonderful, thoughtful young girl. My daughter and Cassie were great friends. We really need to keep everyone in our thoughts and prayers. A young life is now in heaven and will be dearly missed. Accidents occur in life, in this case a very sad one. We should not be blaming anyone, but keeping everyone close to Cassie in our prayers. They are suffering enough with the loss of their daughter.

The mother and grandfather of this child should have both been charged. The mother for being off getting high and the grandfather for his irresponsibility. Then the mother has the nerve to lie and say she was there and did CPR on her child. Total lies! Own up to your mistakes, you are not the victim -your sweet innocent daughter was. You should be ashamed of your self Chrissie Rigby.. Your father too-Ducky Rigby. You are both disgusting!! And the people that believe the Mom's sad, lying, poor me stories are just as pathetic. Open your eyes people-its clearly NEGLECT!!
