CRAWDADS PITCHING SILENCES SHOREBIRDS OFFENSE FOR 5-1 WIN

‘Birds Manage Only Four Hits In Losing Effort

Hickory, NC – Hickory pitchers Miguel De Los Santos and Matt Thompson combined to control the Shorebirds offense in a 5-1 Crawdads win in game three at L.P. Frans Stadium on Monday night.

The Crawdads used the home run ball to grab an early lead in the first inning. Leury Garcia drew a one out walk. Two batters later, Zach Zaneski blasted a Bret Allar change up over the right-center field wall to lift the Crawdads to a 2-0 lead.

The Crawdads extended the lead in the seventh inning. Guillermo Pimentel reached second on a two-base throwing error by Garabez Rosa to open the inning. Then, on a grounder up the middle by Edwin Garcia, Rosa threw him out at first and Pimentel turned third and tried to score. Flacco threw home and Pimentel ran over Justin Dalles and jarred the ball loose to give the Crawdads a 3-0 lead. Dalles walked off under his own power and was removed from the game. After Garcia drew a walk, Jared Bolden hit a two-run homer over the high right field wall to give the Crawdads a 5-0 lead.

The ’Birds plated their lone run in the sixth inning. Trent Mummey drew a lead off walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Then, Ty Kelly hit a liner into left field to plate Mummey. It was his 50th RBI of the season.
