At a time when Barack Obama is getting heat for stonewalling information about an alleged administration bribery scandal, a new poll shows more Americans than ever suspect the president is hiding information about his own background and want him to come clean.
Questions about Obama's eligibility to be president, exacerbated by his refusal to answer questions, release ordinary background documentation and his extraordinary legal maneuvers to keep his background hidden, have been on the radar of a number of top-level investigative reporters and news organizations since before his election.
Essentially, while the Constitution requires a president to be a "natural born citizen," none of the questions about Obama's qualifications – or lack thereof – under that requirement have yet been answered.
"Simply put, this question about Obama's legitimacy as president is undermining everything he does in the minds of millions of Americas," wrote Fritz Wenzel of Wenzel Strategies in an analysis of his results.
"Our latest polling shows a majority of Americans – 55 percent – want Obama to release all records relating to his childhood and his education, including college records, Harvard Law School papers, passport records, travel records, and other similar documentation," he said.
"Asked what should be done should it be found that Obama does not meet the qualifications to be president, 59 percent said he should be removed from office, and 35 percent said all bills signed into law by Obama should be repealed," he said.
The poll said when asked about whether Obama's background documentation – the school records, birth records and others – should be released, the 55 percent who said yes included more than 82 percent of the GOP, 55 percent of independents and nearly 28 percent of Democrats.
Further, another 17.1 percent of Americans said Obama should release some of his documentation, making it nearly three in four Americans who want the president to unlock the steel door on some or all of his background information.
Despite his campaign promises of transparency while in office, there has been no shortage of disputes over secrecy in the Obama administration. He's already argued in court for more secrecy in the White House, claimed his work is "privileged" and apparently got rid of an inspector general who was applying heat to a friend.

Who is Wenzel Strategies? Who says that they are a reliable poll organization?
Obama's election was confirmed UNANIMOUSLY by the US Congress, meaning that all 535 members believed that he is a Natural Born Citizen. Not a single member has since then called for an investigation of Obama's place of birth or of the alleged effect of his father's citizenship on Natural Born Status.
Obama has posted the OFFICIAL birth certificate of Hawaii. Yes, the Certification of Live Birth is now the official birth certificate, accepted as proof of birth in the USA by the US State Department and the branches of the military, and the facts on the document--that Obama was born in Hawaii in 1961--were confirmed twice by the officials of the Department of Health of Hawaii and once by the governor of Hawaii.
The Wall Street Journal said:
"Obama has already provided a legal birth certificate demonstrating that he was born in Hawaii. No one has produced any serious evidence to the contrary. Absent such evidence, it is unreasonable to deny that Obama has met the burden of proof. We know that he was born in Honolulu as surely as we know that Bill Clinton was born in Hope, Ark., or George W. Bush in New Haven, Conn."
Funny how here in MD a certificate of live birth is not a legal document for my kids.

Funny how MD and Hawaii are different states. In Hawaii, the Certification of Live Birth is the official birth certificate and the only one that Hawaii sends out (http://www.starbulletin.com/columnists/kokualine/20090606_kokua_line.html).
Forget the birth certificate issue...What is the matter with all of you "Obama is the greatest president ever" people??? Don't you have even one iota of suspicion concerning his HERCULEAN effort to hide just about EVERYTHING in his past??? why would a PRESIDENT conceal his college transcripts?? Why is his SSN from Conneticutt, a state in which he never worked or resided?? WHY is there a brick wall around his entire life history??? You would have more sucess finding the life details of the CIA director than that of Obama...and instead of saying "here's the information about this, or that....he spends untold amounts of money on lawyers to obscure, delete, hide and deny details of his past...and this doesn't sound fishy in the least to you people?? Any good investigative cop would tell you that this looks like he has something SERIOUS to hide (there's a LOT of smoke here, but no fire???)....you don't see this or just refuse to see it????
The Social Security claim has not been confirmed by any organization or publication. No official or Congressman has asked for an investigation. It is just a claim made by a birther.
The college records are not sealed, they are private, and no president has published his college transcripts (a few voluntarily released their grade point averages, but neither Bush was among them, nor was Reagan, Ford or Nixon, or for that matter JFK, Clinton or FDR). Presidents do not have to publish their grades, and most don't, even the ones who got excellent grades.
Obama HAS released, shown to both FactCheck and Politifact and published, the OFFICIAL birth certificate of Hawaii, and the facts on it were repeatedly confirmed by the two top officials of the Department of Health of Hawaii and by the governor of Hawaii (a Republican).
The money spent was not to hide the birth certificate, which has been published. It was because birthers brought suit, and in our country you have to defend against every lawsuit brought. In any case, none of the lawsuits were just for the birth certificate or for documents. Most were attempts to stop the election, stop the Electoral College from voting, stop the Congress from certifying the results of the election (which it did, unanimously) or stop the Inauguration. Not one of those lawsuits won, and many were described as "frivolous." In at least one case, Ankeny v. The Governor of Indiana, the court ruled that Obama was certainly a Natural Born Citizen.
The only smoke is the smoke that is blowing from birthers, some of whom have gone so far as to forge a "birth certificate" from Kenya. At least one of those forgers was a previously convicted forger who claimed to have gone to Kenya and gotten the document from the hospital but never even proved that he had gone to Kenya and forged it so poorly that it used US date formats (month/day/year) and not British/Kenyan formats (day/month/year).
Obama's Kenyan grandmother did not say that he was born in Kenya. She actually said that he was born in Hawaii, but birther sites continue to say that she said that she was present when he was born--which she did NOT say, and in fact repeatedly said "Hawaii" when asked where he was born. And, in another interview, she said that the first the family knew of Obama's birth was in a letter received from Hawaii many months after the birth.
