Jim Rutledge Responds To Eric Wargotz Liberal Voting Record

FORREST Hill, Maryland- Republican U.S. Senate Candidate Jim Rutledge believes Maryland Republicans have the right and the responsibility to know where the candidates stand on the issues. Jim Rutledge stated, “Eric Wargotz claims to be a conservative but yet his voting record contradicts conservative values.”

Jim Rutledge points out that Wargotz voted for a zoning ordinance that diminished the property rights of farmers and potentially decreased the value of their land. (Queen Anne’s Co. Ordinance 8-25) Jim Rutledge thinks the Republican nominee for U.S. Senate should have a track record that reflects conservative beliefs and platforms. The Rutledge Campaign believes cutting government should be the first consideration not raising taxes. The Wargotz record reflects his willingness to raise taxes as opposed to cutting government. (Ordinance 8-17)

Jim Rutledge feels strongly that being the Republican Party Nominee is a privilege that carries with it an obligation to the voters. Each candidate should demonstrate to the voters their position on issues like taxes and government spending. Every candidate should explain their vision for America and discuss the beliefs and values they hold. Candidates have the responsibility to show up, be willing to debate, and be accessible to the voters.

The Rutledge Campaign encourages Eric Wargotz to quit hiding from the voters and start having an honest debate about who best represents the conservative values of the Republican Party. Jim Rutledge said, “I have concerns about what Eric Wargotz really believes and what his positions are from day to day.” Jim Rutledge is proud to claim the conservative values that provided the strength and prosperity of the Reagan Presidency. The Rutledge Campaign continues to share the message of limited government and lower taxes while encouraging Eric Wargotz to defend his record of larger government and more taxes.

Wargotz is the man. Jimbo get a life.
You have lied and distorted. Shame, shame, shame. I loved the MCYR Debate where the good Dr took the prize. Focus on the issues Jim. Oh, that's right, you forgot about how to do that.

Oh, I get it Mr. Rutledge. This note from your campaign is your idea of an April Fool's joke! Silly man - breaking Reagans 11th amendment and on April fool's Day. I agree, shame, shame, shame on you. Apparently, lights are on but no ones home.

I see that Jim really did his homework on this piece. FYI 08-25 was never voted upon -- it was tabled so a study could be conducted by a Blue Ribbon Panel on how to bring our rural zoning in line with the surrounding counties. See http://www.qac.org/Docs/Ordinances/CY2008/INDEX%202008.pdf (BRP means Blue Ribbon Panel.)

Wargotz will never get my vote.

I don't know anything about this guy Rutledge, but do know something about Wargotz.

Rutledge stated the facts perfectly.

I really appreciate the cowardly anonymous posts. This is regardless of whether for or mostly against someone. I live in QAC and know Commissioner Wargotz record quite well. Never in my history as a waterman and "handyman" have I met a harder working, unselfish, considerate gentleman than him. His decisions reflect careful consideration of all the facts and then votes for the best of the community. He has kept our property and income tax down and helps our farmers with programs above and beyond any other county in the state. The bills cited by this coward of a man above, were absolutely necessary to get the tough debate going. Wargotz is not afraid of tough issues and tough debates. Facts correct? Whole story? No, just more political jockying by a person who seems to lack integrity and courage to take on the real problem - Senator Mikulski who frankly has been good to us who work the Bay.

At least Wargotz has a legislative record.
Calling someone a liberal over one tax increase (really a fee imposed when property changes hands) when Wargotz has cut property taxes every year he has been in office shows how desperate Jim really is.

I know Queen Anne's County politics too. Mr. Rutledge is clearly on the right track, but appears to only know half of the issue. Dr. Wargotz has made it very clear the he does not respect property rights and ignors the harm that it does to hard working farm families.

What Rutledge appears not to understand is that most of this harm stem from the Public Facility Ordinance that Dr. Wargotz's commission passed a couple of years ago. This ordinance essentially limits development on each farm regardless of its size to 5.

Worst yet, I believe a little reseach will reveal that this incredibly harmful legislation was implimented without proper notification or public hearing!

I urge Mr. Rutledge to look into this matter. Regardless, I will never support someone willing to hurt the financial well being of farm families for political gain, nor a politician that won't follow legislative process!

As far as I am concerned, Dr. Wargotz embodies the two!

re anonymous 7:03 - I think you are confusing farmers with farmelopers. I have not heard of any FARMERS that were harmed as a result of the rural reform initiatives initiated by the current commissioners. It was the FARMELOVEPERS that were put out of business by these reforms and are propagating these lies about Commissioner Wargot's record.

The comment above is rich considering that Mr. Rutledge has no track record at all... Except perhaps than as a trial lawyer, a profession not known for it's support of tort reform...

Geez, just what we need another trial lawyer in Congress. Hasn't our 1st district had enough of the two-faced, double-talking lawyer syndrome: Kratovil & Obama. False promises. NO MORE LAWYERS IN CONGRESS.

Interesting how Rutledge had NO political or activist presence in Harford County or frankly, anywhere before making this ridiculous run for US Senate -second highest elected office in the land and asking for 6 years when he hasn't been engaged in his community or anything which he speaks of until filing for office last summer. He comes on the scene claiming all this and all that but according to Harford county contacts, he has never been to a meeting fighting taxes, fees, or weighing in on land use or any other issues. What a sham he and his candidacy are. Trying to fool the voters with empty rhetoric. Is THAT really the kind of character we want for 6 long years? Heavens no. You don't fool us Rutledge.
Run for delegate, commissioner, dog catcher first. Show some integrity. Be honest.

I don't buy into the "don't say anything negative about a fellow Republican" mantra during a primary...that's not really what Reagan meant. Primaries are where we are supposed to duke it out, keeping it issue based, of course. That being said, when I read straight from his website that Dr. Wargotz believes Medicaid should be expanded (yes, he said expanded), I immediately realized that his claims about being a conservative, and his attempts to court tea partiers who are protesting bloated government and out of control entitlements, are all just a joke. Not the type of guy I can get behind. Period. I prefer Rutledge, and frankly I found him far more articulate at the Montgomery Co. debate than any of the other Republicans there. The fact that he is a citizen legislator (who is quite accomplished and who knows and understands the US Constitution) and that he is running with a completely fresh grass roots campaign is a plus for me.

You are too funny! Citizen -legislator. Clearly you are talking about someone else. Not the fella who hasn't been involved in anything prior to running for the lofty US Senate seat.
Oh, and by the way, I see, your guy will do away with Medicaid? Yeah, right..haven't heard him or his folks say that. FYI Medicaid is functionally a State program with partial funding from the Fed government. Ever hear of the 10th amendment? Like anon. said above, start off more modestly and get some experience. Wargotz is the conservative we need - no doubt, and with a modicum of solid experience. Have a great day!
