Crash Closes Philadelphia Pike

Location: Philadelphia Pike at Myrtle Avenue, Claymont, Delaware

Date of Occurrence: Thursday, April 01, 2010, 9:00 a.m.

Vehicle:
2008 Ford E150, operated by Frank Zardecki, 36, of Wilmington, Delaware
2007 Chrysler PT Cruiser, operated by Kevin Lawson, 25, of Media, Pennsylvania

Resume: State Troopers investigated a crash this morning on Philadelphia Pike at Myrtle Avenue that has closed the roadway.

The PT Cruiser was in the center lane of northbound Philadelphia Pike. The Ford was in the right lane adjacent to the PT Cruiser. The PT Cruiser changed lanes to the right and into the Ford. The Ford was forced off of the roadway where it struck a utility pole.

The pole snapped at the bottom and landed on top of the Ford. As a result, the pole needs to be replaced.

Repair crews responded to the scene and are currently replacing the damaged pole. Philadelphia Pike is closed in both directions and is expected to reopen by 3:00 p.m.

Mr. Lawson was cited with Unsafe Lane Change.
