Grass And Weeds!

Dear Joe,

I line here in the City Limits of Salisbury, and some of the grass and weeds in my front yard are getting a little too tall. Could you pleas tell Code Compliance to come over and measure them for me? I don’t have a ruler, and need to know if it’s time to mow already.

Thanks,

Bubba Joe Bunkie

Code Compliance is a very important part of keeping cities safe and clean and property values up.

Hey Bubba, I write for a comedy show and we could really use your input.

Code compliance is fine it's the idiots that enforce it !

You aint going to raise your property value by pulling weeds. Whens the last time and appraisor said pull the weeds and shes worth $500.00 more. They barely look at the structure, dont know what they are looking at in most cases anyway.(all the flowers in the world and I gotta be hooked on a weed).

Its called curb appeal 3:23. Unkept homes equal lazy owners. I'd say 50% of the houses on the shore are unkept/rundown in some way. All it proves is that the population around here doesnt care about one of the biggest investments in your entire life. The lack of pride in anything around here is appalling. Considering the experience I have with the local population here, it only proves what I know.

citygoer- you are making broad assumptions about things of which you know nothing. My family lives in what you would probably consider a "run down home"- it does need some work/updating on the outside, as well as the inside. But we've been doing the renovations slowly- it is a work in progress. It takes time, and money- and we don't have an abundance of either, particularly money.

If you'd like to kick in some time or financing, I'm sure we could bring it up to your standards. (That's sarcasm, in case you thought for a moment I might be serious).

If you think the city is better citygoer, than by all means feel free to go back to where you came from. Weeds have never hurt anyone, I'd rather have weeds next door than some arrogant city person.

citygoer: of the 50% of the homes that are run down, 90% are most likely rentals. conbine that fact with a c&c dept that selectively enforces its rules and therein lies your problem.

I'm talking about 9 inch dandilion sprouts costing me $295. last year while I was out of town tending to my sick mother.Ain't city law enforcement wonderful? The door was broken into and they taped the notice over the busted door, didn't even call anyone about the B&E. They were after the grass money.Does anyone know how much of the $295.they actually pay out to cut the grass?

Gawd, I remember cutting grass for a city lot for $1.75! That was 1966 or so... I'm sure it's up to $10.75 by now!

Dandelions make the best wine.

A box and a half dandelion flowers
2 oranges
2 lemons
For a gallon put flowers in crock with cut lemons and oranges. Pour boiling water over so its all gets scalded. Let stand about 24 hours. Then add 3 lbs granulated sugar and 1 yeast cake to a gallon. Put in jugs. Do not put tops on jugs until done working. (stir each day)
Do not add more yeast if 4 or 5 gallons are made.

Cheers

6:29 drive around. If you cant see it then you have the usual "blinders" on. BTW there is a difference between rundown and "updated". Anyone can have an older home that is well kept. Thats not what I'm talking about. Broken down cars, trash, old tires, and overgrown yards are unkept. Picking up trash costs nothing, recyclers give you money for old cars and then you can use that money to buy a trimmer to trim your yard. Its simple if you ask me. I'm not trying to be a jerk, I'm just honest.

If anyone honestly would rather have an arrogant "city" neighbor compared to a rundown house with a friendly neighbor you are crazy.

Well said citygoer. I used to live in a much larger and nicer metro area and the rural areas around here are generally very run-down. I pass 2 homes near my house that have had yard sale/personal items in their yard for months. Why do ppl here take offense to someone being honest about what really happens here? Its one thing that really gets on my nerves about ppl here. Say anything remotely negative about this area and everyone tells you to leave. Nevermind trying to possibly fix the actual problem. I retired here for a reason but the mindset of ppl here is very stand-offish and arrogant. Which is funny because the other comment mentioned city ppl being arrogant. Ive never been more unwelcomed anywhere else I've lived till I moved here.

Call me crazy. I would rather live next to someone that has a broken down car on THEIR land than I would live in a city. Remind me where you find a ghetto? The city. Where do you find most of your crime? The city. Where is all the smog? The city. Where do you sit in traffic sometimes for hours? The city. Where does citygoer need to moved to? THE CITY! There is a bridge going west and south and roads going north. No one is keeping you here. If you dont like the way of life here MOVE. Why make youself miserable and everyone around you miserable. Life is what you make it either make it better or SEE YA!

I will help cut it down for you if you promise to use spell check on your next post.

5:55 you talk about making life better yet you think that having trash in your yard is ok. Yep, you are crazy. BTW your version of a city is a bit skewed, no surprise since you have likely never lived in one. Why pass judgment on something when the only experience you have with the matter is what you have "heard". The city I used to live in had those issues in smaller amounts and yet it was cheaper to live there than here, the ppl were more friendly and I didnt have to worry about being mugged at night like I have to here. All that smog you talk about compares to the sky high cancer rates here. I'd rather sit in traffic knowing I have a rewarding good paying job rather than going to a job that's a dead-end. Different strokes. It really does amaze me at how defensive ppl are here. The defense towards everything is to move. God forbid you actually fix some of these problems.

Do you ppl realize that you are defending ppl with overgrown yards and broken down cars everywhere??? How pathetic is that. Only on the shore will ppl make excuses about stuff like that.

Some of us have to fix our cars when they break down. Some of us can't just go out and get another one. We have to save up the money then have it repaired. Don't be so quick to judge because you have more money.

I never mentioned having trash in my yard. I just get tired of people that move to the shore bashing it all the time. I did not grow up here I grew up in Western Maryland. You made the choice to MOVE here. Now you complain. Bascially you are admitting you made a bad choice. What my neighbor does with their property is THEIR CHOICE not mine. Sure there are houses that are eye sores around, but there are far to many things to worry about than whether someone cuts their grass or is working on fixing a car.
