Unemployed To Get Free Car Registration

Joe:

Maryland House Bill - HB1147 - would allow the unemployed to get free car registration.

The House Bill was just filed today so the full text is currently unavailable but the synopsis tends to reveal the basic information.

In light of the above, I wish the Legislature would be detained so as to prevent them from even going into session.

It's a good idea. Most folks on unemployment are already struggling to survive.

I know im going to quit my job now.
After a small penalty for quiting your job, you qualify for unemployment , hell it has more benefits than my job.

I'm not against anyone collecting unemployment because they lost their job. That's what it is there for.
However, give them free car registration? I don't think so!
How do you know which ones are honestly looking for another job and which ones are just milking the pot so they can stay home and do nothing?
This is so not right!
ALL of us taxpayers will pay for this!

UNBELIEVABLE!

I don't believe it!!!!If you can afford to have a car then you must accept the responsibility that goes with it. Registration, Insurance, Repairs, and Gas. Why do tax payers have to do this for u?

NOT ACCEPTABLE AT ALL!! Driving is a priviledge, not a right! If you can't afford certain criteria necessary to drive then you shouldn't be driving! If I can't afford my car payment then, my fuel, my insurance, my registration, my title fees and/or my license renewal then guess what...I don't and can't drive!

IF, and I mean IF, they do allow free registration there should be certain stipulations involved as well; I don't want to see the State handing out free registrations to those owning a brand new car or a luxury vehicle. This should be limited strickly to those who have vehicles with lower value who at least bought a cheap car solely for transportation needs. I also believe that if you can go out and afford to buy a car (new or used) you should have enough money to register it. However, renewal circumstances could be more justifiable since the car was previously registered and the owner didn't actively seek a car and take advantage of this free registration perk.

Also, they should require them to display special license plates. Instead of Chesapeake Bay tags, it should say "I'm driving this car thanks to the tax payers of MD"
