The City of Salisbury wants to remind property owners that sidewalks throughout the City shall be free of snow to ensure safe travel of pedestrians.
Chapter 12 of the Salisbury Municipal Code states:
All owners and persons in possession of any land or premises situated on any street within the city where sidewalks are laid shall remove the snow from the entire length thereof for a width of at least four feet and may deposit the same along the remaining portion of such sidewalks nearest the curb within six hours after it has ceased falling, unless the same shall have fallen between the hours of five p.m. and seven a.m., in which case it shall be removed before two p.m. In the event that the snow is not removed within the time and manner above provided, the owner or person in possession shall be notified to forthwith remove the same and, in the event of a failure to do so, shall be guilty of a misdemeanor. In addition, the city may cause the same to be removed as above specified and charge the cost thereof against the owner or occupant, to be recovered by suit.

I'll remove the snow from the sidewalk in front of my house when the City removes the snow from the Street in front of my house! This has been by far THE WORST snow removal effort that I have ever seen in this City! You could literally see where City roads stopped and County or State roads started! And I don't want to hear it blamed on the budget cuts either-the County Roads Division and the SHA both got whacked hard by budget cuts and they seemed to get the roads cleared just fine!
Nice after the plows piled up the snow on the sidewalks which are now frozen solid. It will take a jackhammer to get that stuff up.
Good chance for some kids to make some cash. $10 for a sidewalk is some good money for 10-20 minutes of work. Two kids, half the time and more sidewalks.
I agree with 2:47! My street is nothing but solid ice. Absolutely nothing has been done to it. A connecting street is a snow emergency route and it looks like they just backed a dump truck of sand up and let it go.
OK What doesn't the CITY have the sidewalks cleaned off that belongs to them......
Which code covers the city needing to plow the streets? These guys are funny.
They'll try to blame lousy snow removal on Cohen and Campbell for not approving the snow plow that wasn't budgeted. Remember the article in the Times about that?
In other words, they spent money they didn't have and got caught!

I agree with 2:47. I was shocked to see that so many city streets were not plowed three days after the storm. There is no excuse for this.
I live on a snow emergency route and they did nothing about all the vehicles parked on the side of the road. The plows had to go around them and now there are huge piles of snow in the street. I would like to remind the city to do a better job clearing the roads.

I'm sure Delmar has the same thing yet the sidewalks are STILL covered. Just look in front of the police department.
Let's see if they fine the government buildings!! District Court and Circuit Court sidewalks were just shoveled today!!
i would check out the city properties owned by city officials past and present! they are as snow covered as the streets are. what a shameful, shameful state the roads are in. the official position must be to just wait til it melts and pocket the money.
I remember when I lived in Salisbury,and we had a big snowfall so I went out and shoveled the sidewalk and I was the ONLY perosn on the street to do so.Nobody came around to cite people.Pathetic.
they have a lot of nerve. as of yesterday our "snow emergency" street was NOT YET CLEAR. so many cars parked on the street 2 cars barely have room to pass. I was down town yesterday & it's all you can do to cross the street to the court haus.
Their cejones AND stupidity are showing.

It appears that SNCC is willing to right up code violations on ordinary taxpayers (as it should be to keep our neighborhoods looking good ) BUT unwilling to write up investors ( often slumlords). Let's hope our mayor takes an interest in this. It would REALLY be great if you Joe took an interest in this subject. I miss the days when you went after all the shenanigans of city officials.

Same thing here. I was always afraid of getting fined so I made sure my sidewalk was shoveled and salted but only a few people on my street did this.
They need to figure out that when they drive the trucks equipped with plows they only work if the plows touch the street. We have seen several plows riding around the last 2 days with the plows up! Burn the fuel with no results. Take a look at Eastern Shore Drive...pitiful!
