The odds are someone was either killed or very seriously injured. Kinda makes the "ha-ha's" less funny, doesn't it?

that is exactly why i would not own a smart car.
I don't care what car you're driving, you hit this truck head on and your car will ripple due simply to the size difference.
There are apparently more pictures of this accident and they are gruesome! Yes, somebody died, a horrible death in this one.
What's horrible about a death where you're here one second, and gone the next? Poof, game over. No suffering. Maybe too soon for someone, unexpected and unplanned, but not horrible. Horrible is a terminal illness, spent in a hospital, undergoing painful and futile treatments until you die.
They call this an accident, i.e. something that could be avoided. Not horrible, except that it didn't have to happen. It's not wise to be complacent and careless when around big trucks. And if the truck driver was at fault, the car driver could have had the right-of-way, and was right...dead right.
Defensive drivng folks! It can save your life.
