OC Air Show

Our friend Glen in OC was kind enough to send these pictures of the OC Air Show yesterday.

I was at Seacrets and did hear and see some of the planes but aside from that, WBOC has an article on the Show HERE in which I found quite interesting.

You see, what's quite interesting is the fact that the local MSM is trying to talk up visitors to Ocean City like we've never seen before and they use their wording very carefully.

"We could expect well over 250,000 people being here this weekend and just from the looks of it I think we might have even be over that."

BS! We drove into Ocean City Friday night and guess what, NO TRAFFIC at all! We were at the Bars and guess what, NOTHING! When we left at around midnight, there was NO ONE in the parking lots ON A FRIDAY NIGHT!

Now granted, there might have been a decent crowd for the Air Show but my guess was they were making up for the flop on Saturday. Driving towards Ocean City yesterday made it look like it was fogged in once again but once you got closer things improved quite a bit.

I'm glad many enjoyed the Air Show. From what I could see it was pretty cool. However, let's not kid ourselves. I lived in Ocean City for years and while I drove in through Rt. 90, I drove out Rt. 50 on purpose to see how bad traffic was and I got through with ease!

I'm not buying the MSM BS and neither should you. Mind you, they are fed figures by the Town of Ocean City, so you can't blame them for being completely wrong but seriously Folks, I was with one of the Executives from WBOC yesterday in Ocean City and I'm confident he can even tell you, there's no way Ocean City was jammin!

While I think the Air Show is super neat, I really do wish that OC would try to do this later on in the season (like maybe August or even September). Since they began this annual tradition it has always been in early to mid June-the worst time of year for visability! ANYBODY that knows ANYTHING about nautical weather will tell you at these times of the year in coastal regions when the water is a little cooler than the warming summer air you get this fog or "haze" through the morning hours up til noon. If you back this air show into the later months of Summer when visibility is better it would be much more enjoyable. Why not have the cruisers and motorcycles come in the earlier months? Atleast that way it will be cooler out and certain cars and motorcycles will be less likely to overheat while they sit in traffic!

I drove around for 45 minutes trying to find a parking spot between 5th and 30th, there wasn't anything, not even on St. Louis.

Despite what you may believe, Ocean City was jammin, ask anyone else who was trying to find a parking spot.

Like I said, I lived there for years and trust me when I tell you, Ocean City is NOT jamming like it was in years past.

You wouldn't dare turn out of Seacrets and head south to Rt. 50 unless Coastal Highwas was clear. It took no time at all to get to the Rt. 50 Bridge. Granted, I'm sure for the Air Show it was difficult to find parking, that's a given, especially after they probably had to honor Saturday's ticket holders.

Even Seacrets had 40% of their parking roped off because no one was there. Mind you, I left Ocean City around 7:30 PM when many are heading West to go home and again, nothing. I made it back to the Salisbury area in normal time and didn't have to curse once at a PA driver!

The average working family are broke just waiting for the last shoe to drop and crush everything they have spent a lifetime working for. This recession hasnt even started yet.

That's a lie. The places were packed Friday night. Especially with this being the firemen's week, it was tough to get around.

anonymous 10:53, first of all, I don't lie. Secondly, I was there. Lastly, I lived there for many years and one thing I can tell you is, regardless of the Firefighters being in Town, Ocean City is NOT doing the kind of business the Press is trying to falsely claim they are. It's complete BS, period.

Sorry Joe,

The places are doing a much better business this year than in the past several years.

I came over on Saturday to see the Air Show. Well actually the Thunderbirds only. The traffic was absolutely crazy. I came in on Rt50 and the Park and Ride had people hawking parking places. There was absolutely no place to park until I hit Robin Drive...and even then I had to walk the width of the island. My wife and I saw the fog adn were listening to the radio to see if it was cancelled. Nothing. The radio station that was live broadcasting said nothing of the delay and cancelation. After an hour adn a half waiting for the Thunderbirds, I asked a friend of mine (on duty OC employee) who told me that the Thunderbirds were delayed and probably cancelled. Dont you think it would have been nice for the media to stop asking for more people to come to the show if they are pretty sure that the fog will cancel the show. What a bunch of buttheads. I am in Ocean City almost everyday. I have been to several events but none as bad asa this adn none that has teed me off as much as this one. I will never go back to the Air Show.

Friday night wasn't too bad, but oh my God Saturday was a nightmare. I sat in traffic for hours. It was insane. People leaving, people coming in and stupid seniors. I met my friend in OC Friday night for a couple of drinks. I decided that I had had to much to drink and wanted stay and ride the bus. Now normally rooms down there would be impossible to get down there; however, every place I called had vacancies. Ended up staying once again at Paradise Plaza on 9th St. It was great. I did some club hopping that night and it was empty at a lot of places. Ended up at the Moose. They were not busy as they normally are and they had a very popular band. Saturday it was like another world down there.

Saturday was absolutely ridiculous!! I drove from near Joe's house in Delmar and it took 30 mins to get to west OC, then it took another 45 mins to get to 25th st in OC!! After the show was cancelled we stayed on the beach until 430 to let traffic clear out, but when we left it took 55 mins to get from 25th st to west OC! I've lived in this area for 20 years and thats some of the worst traffic I've ever seen.

Your point about OC being down in recent years may be true, but try telling that to people sitting in the insanely backed-up traffic on Saturday during the Air Show.

It took me 45 minutes to get from 33rd Street to Dorchester Street. I always joke that people in Ocean City don't know what traffic is because I'm originally from the DC area, where rush hour is so much worse than even the 4th of July in OC. But that 45 minute drive was torture, and I don't think I have ever sat in traffic like that in OC. You're right, Friday wasn't very busy but Saturday was insane!

Once again, a over-hyped show comes to a close

It took me over an hour to get from Route 90 to 12th Street on Sunday and another hour to get home to Ocean Pines.
I am the Director of Sales for one of the larger hotels in Ocean City and I can tell you that the weekends in May and so far in June have been tremendously busy. Weekdays not so much. So, if you're looking for a deal on accommodations in OC, my suggestion is to come during the week. EVERYONE wants to come on the weekends and occupancy and rates are up then, but during the week there are definitely good deals to be had.
