Man Injured & Rescued From Rooftop On Cherry Street

The man seen above was attacked by his girlfriend with a broom yesterday morning. He had been painting the trim on the home when the girlfriend went after him with her vehicle, (broom) while he was on the roof. The man fell and injured his back and had to be rescued.

I for one have to admit, the Ladder Truck was a HUGE asset for such a rescue. Great teamwork guys!

Thank you for your positive comments. These men and women handle calls like this everyday and and serve the public well. I know you dont always agree with what happens in the Salisbury Fire Department and thats fine. We do the best we can in all cases. Thanks again for taking the time to see us at work.

The new truck didnt do much, hell it still took 10 people i counted in the photo.
Maybe a layoff should take place, or maybe a bigger truck is needed?

My hat goes off to you Joe. First time i have ever heard you compliment police or fire. You are right, the issue is sometimes you dont know if you need that ladder truck until sometimes its to late. If your life was on the line and needed a ladder truck, would you want them to have to wait 20 min for the truck to get there??? Glad everything worked out and hope the woman got arrested for domestic sweeping, LOL OPS, I mean domestic assault.

It wasn't a girlfriend it was a tenant of the place!

She might have hit me once, after that...... she would have flown on that broom, right off the roof!

217 is a joke?? Where do you see Kurt Walbert in that picture? Unless 217 means something else?

I see Mark Cotter(1620) who I am assuming you think is 217.

I also see Rick Rathel(220E).

Why don't you tell him to his face that he is a joke or are you jealous that you don't have his Chief spot?

At least she didnt shove the broom...

The old ladder truck would NEVER have been able to reach that man! Thank GOD we got one that could!!!!

Thanks for the positive comment Joe. The crews worked well together and something that was left unsaid was the fact the crews washed the gallon of white paint that had been knocked over onto the roof and side of his SUV during the assault preventing a huge mess and damage.
It should also be noted that initially crews were dispatched by Wicomico 911 to Cherry Way instead of Cherry St. This is the reason the Ladder and Engine had to pull the U-turn at Liberty Street.

Anon 5:31 PM, you are correct. The old truck did NOT have a basket on the end of it, so it would NOT do the job this truck does.
