Washington, DC – Last week Rep. Frank Kratovil offered an amendment to the Small Business Financing and Investment Act of 2009 that would raise the maximum SBA 7(a) loan guarantee from 90% to 100% on qualifying loans for veteran owned small businesses.
The amendment passed by voice vote and was included in the final bill which passed as well.
“As we approach Veteran’s Day I feel we should be supporting our Vets not only with our words but with our actions, and this amendment is an appropriate way to do so,” said Rep. Kratovil. “Raising the maximum loan guarantee will not only be a way of fulfilling our commitment to veterans but will also serve to stimulate lending and financing for the small businesses that are the backbone of local economies and the number one source of new job creation.”
The bill frees up the often elusive credit that serves as the life-line of any established or start-up small business, it honors the service of our nation’s veterans, and it will stimulate the small businesses at the heart of the U.S. economy.

What does everybody else get? What their credit report allows? Pardon, and I'm not trying to dis any veterans, as I am thankful for what they have done, but are we just creating another minority here? Maybe at this juncture, everyone should qualify for 100%. After all, we're all trying 100% to stay in the game here. Let's not discriminate here, Frank.
Once again the politicians are creating special treatment for some special group. I honor those that served this country in the armed forces, but can honest Americans see thru this bull$&&t that this career political hack is spewing?

Easy now. While you all are out here living on good wages check the pay scale for an E3 to E5 these are the people humping over in Iraq and Afghanistan, not the O3 to O5's they are sitting at a safe distance under a tent.

I'm a PFC and my base pay is 1650 a month before taxes. You want to cry because the government is willing to guarantee a loan.
I think this is no different than how the mortgage mess was created. I am a Veteran and know the value of having some skin in the game. If you have nothing invested the motivation to work hard evaporates.

I apologize for these tightwads. It does not seem to matter how good the cause...vets, the Bay, their children's education...they will whine about what it will cost them.
What good will their money be if they are not safe from terrorists, can not drink the water, or not enough skill surgeons to operate on that hunk of stone they have for a heart.
This is commenter #1. I respect all vets, even though I am not one, if not for you, I would not enjoy my freedoms. I am now starting my second year of unemployment and am trying to start up 2 new businesses, because no one out there is hiring and I'm looking for anything I can get. I am using my own savings and not asking for any loans or handouts.
Frank is creating a new minority, something we have too many of, and do not need. It's hard not to "serve" the myriad of minorities we have now, and all of us should be on the same "melting pot" and not be separated by some sort of class.
We all give what we can, and deserve equal treatment.
Just another way for the government to try to divide us up into little groups that they can manipulate against each other !
Just because a veteraqn is "offered" 100% loan dont mean the vet will get it. You still have to have good credit still have to pay points it aint FREE. Its not any better now than it was already. It just sounds GOOD. Slick down your ruffled feathers.

What is the difference between a guaranteed business loan and a guaranteed student loan? Business loan you must qualify for, student loans are handed out with less scrutiny.

So you are opposed to the VA because non-veterans are allowed access? And what the heck do youmean by "creating a minority." Vets are already a minority whether they get a guaranteed loan or not.
