Area Veterans To Be Honored At War Memorial Ceremony

Salisbury, MD - Area residents will have a chance to honor those who have served our country at a Veteran's Day ceremony to be held on Saturday, November 11, 2009.

The event, organized by members of the War Memorial Committee, will take place at the Wicomico War Veterans' Memorial in front of the Wicomico Civic Center at 11:00 AM. All are welcome and encouraged to attend the ceremony which will take place rain or shine. Music will be provided by the Salisbury Middle School Band.

To honor a loved one, past or present, that has served or is currently serving as a member of the armed forces, citizens can purchase a Tree of Honor gold leaf in his or her honor. Engraved with his or her name and a short message, the leaf will be placed on the Veterans' Tree of Honor in the Wicomico Youth and Civic Center lobby. Leaves are $100 each and may be purchased through the Department of Recreation, Parks and Tourism. Please contact Tammy Taylor at 410-548-4900 ext. 115. All proceeds are placed in a fund designated to maintain the memorial into perpetuity.

The Wicomico Veterans War Memorial Committee would like to give a special thanks to the following participants in the ceremony – Wicomico County American Legions, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Women’s Auxiliary, Wicomico County Sheriff’s Department, Wicomico County JROTC Cadets and the Salisbury Middle School Band.

I believe more people should Honor and Respect Veterans Day, You should always thank a vet when you see one! I know that I really appreciate all that they have done for us!!! Also, Why aren't the schools closed for this, Is this day not important to our country?!
