ROSS TWP., Pa. - October 5, 2009 -- Authorities in northeastern Pennsylvania say a woman was killed by her pet black bear as she cleaned its cage.
State police say 37-year-old Kelly Ann Walz, Ross Township in Monroe County, was mauled to death Sunday evening by the 350-pound bear.
A state Game Commission spokesman says Walz kept the bear inside a 15-by-15 foot steel and concrete cage near her house.

I would think a 350 pound black bear is a poor choice for a "pet." I'll stick with my cat and Chinese water dragon, thank you!
First clue something would go wrong... Pet black bear.....
Don't keep wild animals as pets!
It's just further proof that no matter how much people think a wild animal is "domesticated", it's just not that simple.
She wont do that again!
I feel the same amount of remorse as the man that dies while sky diving, bungy jumping, or smoking crack.

Black bears dont eat meat. The woman could of been ovulating and the bear(female) saw her as a threat.
A 350 lb black bear eats pretty much whatever it wants :-).....the victim made a very basic mistake in that she did not seperate herself from the bear with a secure enclosure.
Note to self: FEED bear before cleaning cage.

Wild animals should never be allowed to be kept in a cage or sold! That is only asking for TROUBLE!!!
No animal should ever be kept in a cage for that matter !
Mans greed for profit keeps this business flourishing & it will continue to do so till POLITITIONS CHANGE THE LAWS!!! Wait till one excapes & kills one of their own----then you'll see LAWS CHNAGED! The bear was not at fault-----Greed & lack of Laws for their protection was!!!
No Animal is ment to be caged! And----The LAW should NOT ALLOW THE SALE OR KEEPING OF "WILD ANIMALS". No person in their right mind would want to keep a wild animal caged , for their pet. Greed from the profit of selling these exotic creatures keeps that business flourishing & it will continue to--- unless the Politions pass the Laws to STOP IT!!!!
