Don’t Let Halloween Turn into a Horror Story
Salisbury Maryland—Halloween is a much-loved fall tradition that is enjoyed by people of all ages. But irresponsible celebrating can quickly spoil all of the fun. That is why state and local law enforcement is cracking down on drunk drivers with an aggressive Drunk Driving. Over the Limit. Under Arrest. enforcement blitz.
“With Halloween falling on a Saturday this year, we want to make sure revelers aren’t taking the party to the roadways, putting trick-or-treaters and responsible motorists at risk,” said Wicomico Sheriff Mike Lewis. “Law enforcement officers throughout the region will be out in full force arresting and removing drunk drivers from our roads.”
Halloween is a particularly deadly night due to drunk drivers. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), in 2008, 58 percent of all highway fatalities across the nation on Halloween night (6 pm Oct. 31 to 5:59 am Nov. 1) involved a driver or a motorcycle rider with a Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) of .08 or higher, which is illegal in every state.
“One foolish decision can turn a fun Halloween into a real-life horror story,” said Sheriff Lewis. “There are simple precautions partygoers can take such as designating a sober driver in advance or taking a taxi.”
The Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office also recommends these simple tips:
Plan a safe way home before the festivities begin;
Before drinking, please designate a sober driver;
If you’re impaired, and haven't designated a sober driver, use a taxi, call a sober friend or family member, or use public transportation so you are sure to get home safely;
If you happen to see a drunk driver on the road, don’t hesitate to contact your local law enforcement;

This isn't exactly relevant to this post, but I wanted to enter a comment. I had the opportunity to travel to Annapolis on Sunday. While on Rt 50 (east and westbound), I noticed quite a few MSP stopping motorists along the road. I assumed for speeding. But once I reached the western shore, where the speed picks up considerably, I didn't see any vehicles pulled along the road. So, do vehicles traveling on the Eastern Shore have a greater chance of being stopped than drivers on the western shore? Just wondering...

Every year the people in Bivale md. rt. 349 have a pumpkin smashing event on the state rd.
Most of these people are drinking
and they cover the road with hundreds of pumpkins. They do this on a dangerous curve about a hundred yards past the fire dept.
This is a very dangerous curve and it cost the state money every year to clean it up. The state police and the county police have been notified of this and have promised to keep patroling that area during each night all week. It has made a mess of vehicles much less the road. I guess some of the adults that promote this may be disappointed this year , am I right Nancy?
Dont worry, SPD will be out looking for noise citations and under age drinkers while MSP and WCSo will be doing real police work.

HA! how many of us have done this only to have the LAW ENFORCEMENT do NOTHING!
we sit on the phone, telling them every detail..what kind of car it is, a tag # what direction they are going and sometimes follow far behind. Hoping to keep people safe by doing the right thing. but to no surprise your local LAW ENFORCEMENT never show up to do anything. its sad really..
So now Halloween nite we are sopposed to be at ease knowing our local law is going to make sure people are safe???
Heck look at the crime rate around here. We are not even safe in our own homes...
