Washington, DC – Rep. Frank Kratovil announced that special payments are now available to over 185,000 service members who have had their enlistments involuntarily extended since September 11, 2001, providing $500 for every month they were held under stop-loss orders. Congress established this payment in the 2009 War Supplemental Appropriations Act enacted this summer.
“We owe our veterans and their families the best our government can possibly offer to improve their standard of living,” said Rep. Kratovil. “This $500 per month payment will help veterans and their families who have literally served above and beyond the call of duty. Although slight compared to their sacrifice the payment is in recognition of the hardship placed on these troops and their families by extended deployments.”
The Retroactive Stop Loss Special Pay is available to service members who had their enlistment extended or retirement suspended due to Stop Loss between Sept. 11, 2001 and Sept. 30, 2009. Service members from every branch of the military will receive compensation.
Service members may begin submitting their claim for Retroactive Stop Loss Special Pay today. All applications must be submitted to the respective services no later than Oct. 21, 2010. Service members must provide documented proof they were “Stop Lossed” with their claim. Family members of deceased service members should contact the appropriate military service for assistance in filing their claim.

This payment builds on Congressman Kratovil’s continued efforts to support our veterans and troops including progress in improving veterans’ hospitals and facilities, expanding economic opportunities for returning soldiers and improving care for those with PTSD.

Im a soldier and I m glad to have the money but is this guy ever going to stop trying to buy my support? Im not voting for this guy again

I applaud this action. However, what about the thousands of us who enlisted in the early 50's for 4 years and were involuntarily extended to 8 years???
Maybe it doesn't count because it is ancient history.
Buying votes is what this is all about. The dems never seem to run out of new ways of spending tax payers money even if it is for a good cause. The government is broke and printing money as fast as it can and they are still looking for new ways to spend it.
Yah thanks I am in Iraq right now and I am eligible from last time i was over here in 2006. Now all I want is for them to say that Involuntary Recall is that same thing as Stop-loss. I was re-called earlier this year after being out for almost 3 years.
