The above links are to the four other articles we produced on the Americana Hotel CO violations. However, today was their day in Court and the State shocked everyone!

The Americana Hotel Owner was three hours late in appearance for his 10:00 AM trial time and even with the disrespect towards the Judge, the Court reduced ALL fines all the way down to a $1,000.00 DONATION to the Ocean City Volunteer Fire Department to purchase CO Detectors instead.

Look Folks, I have been hearing all sorts of unbelievable stories recently about the Judicial System in Worcester County, many of those stories we're still working on. However, IMHO, I just can't believe the Fire Marshall, (who gave the Americana the $10,000.00 fine) has been slapped in the face.

Not everything in life makes sense and hopefully through comments I'll gain some wisdom and understanding towards such a decision. Right now I'm simply shocked. The Americana did NOT have CO Detectors in place and clearly violated the law.

I guess it's all about who you know. If I was the Judge I would have slapped them silly just for showing up several hours late! Must be that Bronx thing in me.

Old money and old connections. Why wasnt the fact that they had NO Co detectors noticed when the building was being inspected this year?

You're right Joe----from the Bronx or not, most people are starting to question what in the heck is going on with these judges only slapping the fingers of the person committing the crime. Being late should have been another fine!
It has to be discouraging to the people that have brought them before the law------Where are the answere to what's going? Sounds like someone got paid off!

The building inspectors are a joke. Just look at some of the houses that are passing inspection. Not only now but several years ago. It's all in how deep your pockets are determines how much passes.

Look at the owner here. When you realise who he is and where he's from you might understand.

See it is the courts that are the problem. We need to stop asking for more police that will not prevent nor stop the crime problem. A police state will only cause law abiding citzens more problems and money, and will not solve the crime problem. It is the courts that are the problem. They are nothing but a treadmill of failure. Numerous repeat offenders continuously slapped on the wrist, released to once again commit a crime to justify their pitiful existence (the courts). Legalize pot, release the 500,000 non violent drug offenders in this country, and use the savings and open jail cells to really attack the violent offenders, child molesters, and white collar mega crimmals, lock um up and in a few years the problem would be solved. Of course this would never happen. They need the turmoil to justify their bloated outrageous budgets.

Just accept:

Just a FEW families control what goes on in OC (7?).

End of discussion....

Here we go again... The enforcement people do their job and the judges just let it go. This is disrespectful to the enforcement force and the public. I would have given him a full 48 hrs in the pokey for contempt of court and to teach him how to count the minutes. Local judges need to take time to rethink how we bring law and order to this area!
