WICO's Morning Host To Do Live Interview With Pres. Obama

Smerconish scores an Obama interview

The session at the White House today is billed as the president's first on live radio.

Questions about health care and the search for Osama bin Laden will be front and center as WPHT's Michael Smerconish sits in the White House's Diplomatic Reception Room for what is billed as President Obama's first live radio interview at 1 p.m. today.
On yesterday's programs, which air on 50 stations, Smerconish was soliciting what he called "pointed but substantive questions from listeners all over the country."

Smerconish, who interviewed Obama three times during the presidential campaign but never face-to-face, said he had no idea how he had landed the 20-minute interview, which will air locally [Philladelphia] on WPHT-AM (1210) and on Andrea Mitchell's program on MSNBC. Smerconish, a longtime Republican who created an uproar when he publicly supported Obama, said he had made "umpteen requests" to the White House.

"I'd like to think it's because I try to run a dignified program against a backdrop of undignified programs," he said. Perhaps, he mused, when Obama is out of office, he can get into the archives and "piece together the paper trail."

Smerconish's morning show replaced most of the time slot that was formerly filled by Bill Reddish, who continues to do his show in a reduced time slot from about 8:10 to 8:30 AM on WICO-1320 AM.

It's great Smerconish gives us a national perspective but it's a real shame we've lost the in-depth coverage of local issues from Bill Reddish

WICO WACKOS:

Bring Bill Back - Pleeeeeeeeze

Yeah, bring Bill back so we can listen to him read articles from the Daily Times and Salisbury News without giving credit to either one as his source.

Excuse me, I am new to the area. Was Bill Reddish the older gentleman who sounded like a nagging old lady ("shutup")? Whoever that guy is, I hope he falls off air.

"Obama and Philadelphia-based Michael Smerconish will broadcast from the White House. While Smerconish is generally considered conservative, he supports abortion rights and endorsed Obama last year.

Bill Reddish is one of the main reasons (along with this blog and a group of concerned city residents who fought the good fight for many years) that Barrie Tilghman is no longer mayor of Salisbury.

His on air interview with Louweasel Smith in 2007 is now a matter of local legend.
