The Defining Force of Southern Rock Comes to the Wicomico Youth & Civic Center Stage
(Salisbury, MD) Lynyrd Skynyrd, the band which helped define Southern Rock, will perform in concert at the Wicomico Youth & Civic Center on Friday, October 16. Tickets to the 8:00pm show go on sale Friday, August 21 at 10am.
After releasing its first album, “pronounced leh-nerd skinnerd” in 1973, Lynyrd Skynyrd was quickly propelled into fame. Their down home Southern lyrics when coupled with British rock inspired music helped establish Southern rock as the seventies’ hottest musical trend. The bands’ earliest albums introduced classics like “Free Bird,” “Sweet Home Alabama,” and “Saturday Night Special.”
Since its beginnings in the Seventies, Lynyrd Skynyrd has faced more than its fair share of tribulations. A 1977 plane crash killed three of its members, including lead singer Ronnie Van Zant. The surviving members did not come together again until a 1979 performance at Charlie Daniels’ Volunteer Jam. In 1987, the tenth anniversary of the plane crash, the members again came together for a reunion tour to honor their fallen band mates. Lead singer Ronnie Van Zant’s place was taken by his brother Johnny. The reunion brought Lynyrd Skynyrd back to life and the band began making music again. In March 2006 the band was inducted into the Rock ‘N’ Roll Hall of Fame.
With their first set of new studio material since 2003’s Vicious Cycle, legendary rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd returns with God & Guns, due out September 29 on Loud & Proud/Roadrunner Records. Recorded in Nashville in 2008-2009, the project was interrupted—but, tellingly, not ended—by the deaths of founding member/keyboardist Billy Powell and longtime bassist Ean Evans earlier this year.

Why do bands always die in plane crashes? Does everyone get drunk/high and then take off?
Great people to hang out with also. I think it was 2003, they got new speakers. Very loud at the DE state Fair. Will talk to anyone and sign autographs if they have time. Rd Manager is kind of a dill hole.
here is a thought ..bulldoze the civic center and make it a high rise parking garage..then buy the old mall and put a better facility, that for one can sell beer, nore seats and get some real bands in here. Not has beens or low rate acts..This is a joke Lynard Skynryd is gone dudes..one original member come on.

I saw them when they played at the Shore Birds Stadium like 6+ years ago... They were OK... Not worth going again.

I saw them just after the crash..as rossington collins band..good band then..to old to rock and roll and skynard died in the plane crash....what really bugs me is the old mall site just sitting there empty and useless..we don't need more condos and stores how about an arts center..we have had 2 hockey teams offer to play here but noooo we can't sell beer...the bands that come here are a joke...why can't this town get its head out of its ass and do something that i for one would not mind a tax increase for instead of giving breaks to developers for worhtless condos town homes etc...a bigger venue would bring allot of new bussiness and positive growth that would creat longer lasting jobs duh...no smallsbury would rather electe slumlord pupets
