Salisbury News Visitors

I just received a comment, (which was rejected) by someone complaining about our decision to add MSM National News.

Look, first of all, this Blog is FREE. No one is pointing a gun to your head demanding you come here. More importantly, YOU'RE THE ONLY ONE COMPLAINING.

You make it sound as if we no longer provide local news and information and for that reason I rejected the comment.

We are providing just as much local news and information as we always have. We've simply gone from 30 articles a day to 50, including more national news we feel you'd be interested in.

In the mean time, send us your name and address and we'll be happy to send you a bill for your subscription. If that doesn't satisfy you, please click on the big "X" in the top right hand corner of this screen for our "Complaint Department" and your problem will be resolved immediately.

I can't think of any media source that does not include national news.

lets face it, we live in an area where there are more days that has no interesting "news" and posting only and completely news from any one city on the shore (pick one) the site would be stagnate for days at times.

During the election and at present the national political news is constant and more interesting than I can ever remember in my lifetime.

The shenanigans inside the beltway needs to be reported on a minuet by minuet basis to keep-up with "that one" in the white house and the people need to see it.

No profanity, nothing too damaging to you, I hope you post this comment and not delete it.

I would have to agree with the person that made the comment you are referring to. Yes I realize I don't have to read this blog and soon I may not. I used to enjoy reading it because it was mostly local news that I enjoyed reading. I enjoyed your (Joe's) investigating and making information public that previously may not have been. I too have noticed that there is a ridiculous amount of posts now every day on sbynews and very few of them actually relate to this area. After cruising through all the articles currently on the main page of sbynews I came up with 4 that I think are actually related to this area. I did not count press releases or comments that were moved to the main page instead of an actual post or the "dog found/update" posts. Just an observation.

Mike, I was waiting for a comment just like that, thank you.

If you go to your local store and purchase the Daily Times you'll find mainly national news.

I could take each Press Release and create a manufactured story like the Daily Times does but ask ANY Police Agency if the Daily Times EVER gets their facts straight on such mentioned stories and they'll ALL tell you, no.

Monday's are usually a difficult day because not much goes on over the weekend, story wise. Heck, there wasn't even much reserved on the MSM Sites for any good stories.

Nevertheless, again, this is a FREE Site. In fact Mike, I challenge YOU to try to keep up with even our local stories. In fact, I encourage it.

How you only come up with 4 local stories out of 50 posts today is beyond me Mike but that's the way you see it, so be it.

I do this on my time, not on yours. I do not get paid to deliver 50 stories a day and quite frankly Mike, I can guarantee you one thing. IF you ever tried doing what I do in one day you'd come to find I probably do about 4 times the actual work you do in one day and that I can guarantee you.

Remember Mike, there may be close to 300 comments already put up today, ALL of which I personally moderated. That being said, there's been at least 150 I rejected, all 450 comments I have to read and then process. Then I also have to answer the phone, get in the car and ride out to take pictures of a dead man on Northwood Drive, pay for the gas, insurance, upkeep on the cars, my time, equipment, you name it.

So quit bellyaching like a little spoiled brat and be grateful someone is out there providing this information 7 days a week and isn't charging you a single penny.

By the way Mike, would you like to stand in the freezing cold during late November and all of December and ring a bell for the Salvation Army???????

Dear Joe,

I can relate to your situation here. I used to volunteer for an organization. Everybody had suggestions on how I could improve on what I was doing for FREE. I am sorry to say that I got fed up and I quit. I admire your tenacity.

Thanks for what you do,

A Grateful Reader

Only ridiculously narrow minded people would not be interested in being well informed about things happening in our Nation as well as locally. For goodness sake. Keep all the "non-local" posts coming especially in such a critical time for our country.

Hi Joe!
I am relatively new to SBYNEWS. I only started reading last week when a friend told me that I could find information regarding my daughter's pediatrician's accident regularly updated on this site. I started reading other posts and responded to a few. I love this site! Way more unbiased and open then mainstream media. Thanks for providing this site, and accepting comments from all viewpoints!

50 posts in one day is a lot of work. How many of these posts can be heard on radio or television? I also liked when most of the news was local because that is where I live, it affects me. Most of us read from work, we can't spend all day on the computer so we hear national news on the radio. At home in the early evening we watch the news, local and national. Later in the evening after the kids are in bed we check the blogs for new comments added to local topics to get a feel for how those in our community think and feel about the topic.

Quantity of posts is not as important as quality.

In the end we appreciate what you do even if we don't agree.

Joe, I guess it's time for me to respond to your response. I won't repeat the points you stated but will respond to them in order.

#1 One of my main attractions to this site was that it WASN'T like the Daily Times. If you wan't to be like the Dailty Times then so be it, your choice.

#2 I didn't say I minded the press releases but maybe you could have a separate section for them and only post the somewhat "major" incidents on your main page.

#3 Just because not much local news occurred this weekend doesn't mean you have to find as many possible national stories that you can to fill space. Why don't you do some follow-ups on older stories?

#4 I never said I could do a better job or even that I wanted to try, just told you my opinion of what brought me to this site and how that has changed.

#5 We could take about that one in person, it's too long to write.

#6 It's a little ignorant to compare the amount of work we both do when neither of us has ANY idea how much the other does on a normal day. It's also a little ignorant to attempt to belittle me considering I never questioned how busy you may or may not be.

#7 Want to cut down on comments? Put up less BS stories not related to this area. It's almost pointless to even comment on many stories you put up because by the time someone replies to your comment the article is already 30 posts down the line.

#8 I don't remember "bellyaching" I simply commented on a post you put up and gave my opinion which disagreed with yours. There are many sites which don't charge a penny for local/regional/national and international news, just about all of them. I told you why I enjoyed this site and I will end up going elsewhere if that allure disappears. That isn't meant to be a threat as I'm sure you could care less if you lose one visitor, it's just simply what I will do.

#9 Once again, you are throwing comments out about things you have absolutely no knowledge about. I didn't attack you personally in my comment but unfortunately you have decided to attack me. I've rung a bell for the Salvation Army for the last 4 years.

One last thought, please don't act like you do this all for free. You yourself have said that you are planning on selling advertising on SBYNews so consider the time you are putting in as an investment into a possible future business.
