The Love Party

By GAIL COLLINS
Published: June 24, 2009

On behalf of the people of Illinois and New York, I’d like to thank South Carolina for giving us Mark (“I’ve been unfaithful to my wife”) Sanford. Finally, a governor who’s weirder than Rod Blagojevich and less responsible than Eliot Spitzer.

Really, we’re extremely relieved.

Sanford, as we all now know, went AWOL from his state last week, then re-emerged to admit that he had not been on the Appalachian Trail writing a book, as the chaotic explanations from his family and his staff had suggested, but in South America where he had gone to break up with his lover. “I spent the last five days crying in Argentina,” he said, completely ignoring all we have learned from Andrew Lloyd Webber.

Poor Governor. If you could have held on just one more day, you could have cruised right through the airport and been back to work without anyone knowing. Now, the media will be quite busy for several days talking about the famous singing child molester who just dropped dead - finally. Poor Governor, you have terrible timing.

That's sad because he was actually a good governor and I have been following him for the past couple of years. The Democrats will want his head, but it is ok for one of then to not keep it in his pants. What an idiot his wife was a millionaire.

You cant treat your wife like this if she is true and correct with the marriage. If you can you are not a trust worthy person, cause if your wife cant trust you, tax-payers cant either. Simple math mixed with a real reality.

Good governor? He disappears with no contact number and charges the trip to the taxpayers? (He's going to reimburse now that he's caught.)

Also one of those who pounded on the morality of the Dems and Clinton. Even one of the leading GOPers is saying, "Ya know what? Maybe we should drop the self-righteous moral b.s. because apparently, we can't keep our own pants zipped."

Great article, btw!

I think all politicians should be castrated, those with gashes {like Barney Frank} should have it sewn up closed! Then maybe they could concentrate on why they are in office!!!

After a bit of discussion with my husband I realized something he said makes a good point. What if there is more to the story? Way more, as in he is providing information to outside sources? Obviously if this man was a possible candidate for 2012 he knows a lot more than the general public. Just a thought....

How , too often, too soon, we forget... the young intern ON HER KNEES in front of our POTUS in the Oval Office in our White House...
Who among us could visit there & NOT , even if for only a moment, picture that? Whether we want to or not?
I find this mild by comparison. All those NOT guilty, PLEASE step forward!

Well, anyone?
