Wicomico Sheriff's Office Respond Quickly To Threatening Text Messages

Wicomico School System and Wicomico Sheriff's Office Respond Quickly to Threatening Text Messages, Arrest Suspect

Today at noon, the Wicomico County Public Schools received the same threatening electronic messages which were received in Delaware last week, with the addition of Parkside High School and Wicomico High School to the message. We have been working closely since we became aware of this situation in cooperation with the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office which has determined that the threats were unfounded.

We are pleased to announce that, through fast response and diligent investigation, a suspect was apprehended, interviewed and, subsequently, confessed and was arrested. The suspect is a 16-year old male Wicomico County student living in Salisbury.

“The Wicomico County Public Schools would like to thank the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office for its excellent work on this matter and wishes to assure the parents and guardians of students in the school system that safety is our first priority,” said Dr. John Fredericksen, Superintendent of Schools. Parents and guardians with questions or concerns should contact their child’s principal.

“We will investigate incidents like these very aggressively. We take our students’ safety absolutely seriously,” Dr. Fredericksen said. “The school system would also like to thank the student body and parents who assisted with the investigation for the safety of all students.”

A joint press conference with the Superintendent of Schools and Wicomico County Sheriff Mike Lewis will take place at the board at 3 p.m. Monday, March 23.

Joe, didn't they read your blog and find out they would get caught, just another way we're failing our kids by letting them go to public schools...

WCBOE had an automated phone message from the super. I got it. Check your machine at home.

Parents, talk to your kids about the responsibilities of owning a cell phone. If they can't handle it, take it away. This is ridiculous!

Things sure have changed since I was that age.... we did not have cell phones, just our house phones and you can be sure Mom or Dad was nearby,in the room with you, listening to every word you said.If you were lucky and acted right, you got an extension in your room but your calls were limited.
Its not technology thats causing these problems, but the lack of supervision in general of kids using the technologies. Most kids now have unlimited internet and telephone access, and very little of it is supervised.

Kids don't need the cell phones in school. No one can say no to what kids want, though, not the parents and not the school board.

it must have been few people that got the phone message because i didnt either. also I am set up on email with the schools and I didnt get an email..
As far as John Fredrickson..haha
He cares of the safety of our children...BS...He had to do something. He probley had his secetary do all of it anyways. as alwalys.. He has become good friends with the mayor..tell you anything???
The BOE here in this county is a joke. Parents need to make a pop in visit to their childrens schools and see what is going on in there. If your children are ststing things weird are going on better check into it.... because i bet they are right. So the super only did this one thing because had had no choice..

?? Parents, I get messages on my home phone quite often from the School. Are you all sure you gave the school the correct number to reach you or to leave you a message? Seems very unlikely that a RECORDING would only be sent to some of the parents, since it is computer generated.

My son goes to Wi High and we even get phone messages when classes are delayed due to weather.
