Each year, the week following Presidents Day is designated as Engineers Week. This week has been selected because George Washington is viewed as being the first, or earliest, prominent American engineer. President Washington was a surveyor engaged in early surveys of the frontier lands of the American Colonies. The major engineering societies in the US along with corporate sponsors, participate in activities across the country to inform the public about the profession and its achievements. Outreach programs for K-12 schools are an important part of the week’s program. The American Society of Civil Engineers was founded in 1852 as the first American professional engineering society. It is the oldest engineering society in the United States.

This is a good thing and at a PUBLIC school to boot. Engineering is a great profession and would get you started to a good wage to support your family down the road.
