A Comment Worthy Of A Post
"And Chief See lives in Delaware, Deputy Chief Rick Hoppes lives in Parsonsburg and Volunteer Deputy Chief Gordy hangs his hat in Delaware. All have city take home cars and your fuel. Volunteer Deputy Chief Bill Gordy just got a brand new Crown Vic with the sticker still in the window. $28,080 of your tax money. That doesn't include the $15,000 light package or the 800 mhz radios or the stripe package. Does anyone know what the final cost of that take home car is?"

The Chief does live in town.
Most of the employees at the fire department live outside city limits. The volunteers have alot that live outside limits also. What do you want them to do be required to live in the city limits with high crime, not enough cops and outrageous taxes?
A take home car is worth $6,000 per year. Add up the cost of insurance, the automobile, fuel etc. These guys dont drive them to the grocery store do they? I thought it was more back and forth to work with the ability to respond to a fire in a proper vehicle. Their perk is probably much less.
What is this guy's interest in the Fire Department? Does anyone really know? Does he do all of it because he "cares about people and their property"?
I felt like doing some math this morning, so here we go....
Our good friend Cheif Webster apparently lives in WESTOVER and drives his precious take-home CITY OF SALISBURY Crown Vic Police Interceptor approximately 19.6 miles to and from work. That is a39.2 mile round trip and assuming that he works 5 days a week that would add up to 196 miles a week and 10,192 miles a year! According to the 2009 Ford CVPI specs (not sure what year Webby's is, but I'm sure that the MPG is as good or worse than the 2009 model) he should be getting 23 MPG highway and 15 MPH City. I'll average the two and we'll estimate his fuel economy at 19 MPH (That also assumes that he can keep his foot in check and drive like a civilize human being). We'll use 2008's average fuel cost in MD as a standard, $3.18/gal.
So according to my calculations...
we, the tax payers, paid $1,705.81 for good ole Webster to drive to and from work last year. Remember, this is just one round trip per day, 5 days a week, 52 weeks a year. This does not include additional trips to and from Court, special events, meetings, grocery shopping, joyriding with the wifey, and other unneccessary trips.
Let's also not forget, that's 10,192 miles per year off the life of the vehicle!!!!!!!!!!! Police vehicles rack up mileage quick, and now we allow Webster to expedite the death of our city vehicles...RIDICULOUS!
Take a tip Chiefy, quit spending our money! Maybe if you had to dodge some of the bullets flying in Salisbury then you would realize that the safety here has gone down the toilet and you'd actually do something about this crime wave! Maybe if you were actually active in our community like Mike Lewis has been then good folks like Mr. Shea wouldn't be sitting in the Hospital with 8 bullets in him!
Work where you live-so buy a house in Salisbury or get a job in Westover, I prefer the latter!

His interest is money and the possibility of being Chief. He loves to play the management game. High stakes projects with your money. It the perfect situation with access to lots of money and a Big dumb volunteer firefighter/councilman holding they keys to the castle. If he had any interest then why did he wait ten years before applying once he left Delmar. He like See badmouthed Salisbury endlessly until he got in. A mistake the volunteers have regretted ever since.
You can find that City car at his office in Delmar most any day. Why cant he take his own vehicle?

Read the post BOZO, it says he hangs his hat in Delaware. Doesn't say anything about where he lives. He spends all his time in Delaware with a city vehicle. Don't you remember all the pictures Joe posted about the car? Gordy is from Delmar and spends a lot of time there for business and not city of salisbarrie business.

WRONG!! Hoppes is seen all the time with his family in the car. I remember he used to have a take home vehicle a couple of years ago and he had car seats in it.
This does not just happen in Salisbury people.
In Delmar, NONE of the officers OR the Chief live in Delmar!
The Delmar Council voted a long time ago - no more take home cars, but they still do it.
One officer was in his patrol car at his mother's house in Salisbury a couple of weeks ago for a visit.
Now, was he on duty at the time?
Who knows. IF he was, then what was he doing at his mother's house in Salisbury. IF he wasn't on duty, then why was he in the patrol car, again, in Salisbury?!
We're not talking about an officer high up in command like a Chief, Lt. or Sgt. either!
Final cost is just under $40K. I know the police cars run about $40K once they are completely out fitted.
