Obama's Inauguration Has Been Financed Partially by Bailed-Out Wall Street Executives
The country is in the middle of the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression, which isn't stopping rich donors and the government from spending $170 million, or more, on the inauguration of Barack Obama

While ABC News recognizes this, why aren't the American People speaking out? I guess my biggest question is, when is enough, enough? Our Congressional Leaders are driving this Country into the poor house. Are YOU feeling like YOU have no control? Do YOU believe the Bailouts are necessary? Are you so trusting in these leaders that you feel we'll walk away from this without permanent financial scars? I don't want to hear political answers. I want to know, HOW CAN WE RESOLVE THIS FINANCIAL PROBLEM? If we start discussing what WE think might be the answer, then we can judge our Congress as to how they're handling it. WE need to speak up about it and there's no time to waste.
I do have an answer to some of the problems, not all. Are you interested in hearing it in detail?

I am sure this is a special event for some, but lets get real here. Wouldn't Obama be remembered more favorably for realizing the tough times we're experiencing. Would he be less of an icon if he just said NO to all this hoopla. Have a simple podium where the networks can shoot and do the deed quick and simple. A shotgun weding of sorts. The country would save millions and the man would still be legally sworn in. This kind of wasteful frills is why we are in the shape we're in. FDR wouldn't have stood for all this mess.
"FDR wouldn't have stood for all this mess."
That was a poor choice of words.
As far as expense, George W.'s second inagural drew 500,000 people and cost $50mil. Obama's drew more than three times that and cost more than three times that.
The thing is ,During the Bush inauguration, all you heard was how dare they spend that much money, that money could be spent on armor for the troops , feed the poor, clothe the naked etc.... now times that by 3 and you hear, what a wonderful way to celebrate. dress in you Sunday best and go. Aren't there still naked and hungry people? Isnt there still a need for armor? I think both amounts are disgusting personally. How big of a party do you need? When you're not spending your own money but that of the tax payers, I guess it doesn't matter then , does it? Rick P.
I would have more respect for Obama if he had said lets use this money to help the poor or the people losing their houses. But no we have to spend it on Obama and all the frills I think we have elected a dictator. There is already people sponsoring amendments to take the two term limit off of the presidency so Obama can stay in office forever and this was even before he was sworn in as presidnt. Good -bye free country hello dictator.
This one probably costs more simply due to the price increases on EVERYTHING.
That, my friends, came from the Bush presidency.
Will Obama change things and make things better? I don't know. Neither do you. We all can hope.
It is not the ONE person (POTUS) who does everything and gets everything through the House and Senate. Sometimes people forget that.
If people were as passionate about voting for Senators and Representatives as they are voting for the office of President, maybe we would have a much better Congress!
1:44, it just goes to show how much more liked Obama is than Bush.
1:57, it doesn't sound like you repsect Obama to begin with so I'm not buying your sob story. Repealing the 22nd ammendment....it was tried during Reagan and Clinton too. It won't happen, nor should it.
I can't even pay my mortgage this month, I actually have a job and try to make ends meets, but the country can spend $170 million for the inauguration! Come on, BO should of stepped up and wanted a private ceremony and been done with it. I can't wait to see what the "change" will actually be. There is going to be a lot of really disappointment American's out there. I won't be one of them because I don't think he is up for the challenge. I will continue working and taking care of MY family, working 2 or 3 jobs if I have to. *Brian*
Amen Brian. I just found out my insurance just went up 35%. We are all in deep trouble. 17o Million would have made a nice premium bailout.
170 million is just a drop in the bucket compared with all the millions and billions that we have spent on Bush's war in Iraq.
anonymous 6:00,
I knew one of you Idiots would come back with a typical political democratic excuse like that. YOU are the exact reason this Country deserves to fall apart. NO ACCOUNTABILITY.
Isnt this just typical of obamas heritage ? A person receiving welfare driving a cadilac. A president spending so much money while the country they are president of going broke ?
I expected no less. And neither should you . If a apple breaks from its limb , it falls. Every time. Now what you should be focussing on is what other "norms" do people of his heritage portray ? With this knowledge you can be prepared for what is to come.
Obama is spending our tax dollars to honor his illinios and hawaii "roots". I didnt sign up for that ? Save the bucks buck.
Have your glory as it pertains to "ALL" Americans since we are all paying for it.
I hope he dosnt spend our money in the future in this same irresponsible manner.
But like the man said "He can do anything he wants to now, Hes the president!"
Let them eat cake! Or cornbread, as the case may be.
For that kind of money, I would expect champaigne & caviar at the inaugural ball. It was reported they "downgraded" to "finger food" to save bucks...and how much did it cost to attend one of those balls? You don't get in for free. Where's that money go?
Of all his promises I'd like to see the ones for openness in government and accountability be kept.
