Is There A Solution for Downtown Salisbury?

The Daily Times wants "vision".  The downtown business owners probably want a city government that, at best is a partner, at worst gets out of the way.

Is there a way to make downtown Salisbury a vital, and viable, destination again?  Perhaps.

One thing that is sure - more "grand schemes" and subsidies to a chosen few are not the answer.  Read More ...

GA, I could not agree with you more on this point. I lived in Norfolk in the 70's and watched as Ghent went from a ghetto to a fabulous place to visit, spend time and money. If this community is concerned about the lifestyle of people being different from their own then this city will never go anywhere. It will remain the same as it is, closeted. The comments on this blog have proven people here can't move past color. They'll never accept alternative lifestyles. Sadly, the mind is to small for the majority of people here.

Look what they are doing with Federal Hill in Baltimore. If it can be done there it can be done anywhere.

I guess the bottom line here is that cities are built and do survive without a "downtown" area.
The problem is; Salisbury was not one of them. We HAVE a downtown, and so it is up to our city government to either take care of and develop it, or tear down the whole core of the city and make it an "open space".Where are all the studies for development stored? Are they available for public viewing so we can all make valid choices here?

You must have forgotten we are on the shore, where absolutely EVERYTHING happens slower or sometimes not at all. The shore isnt the place to revitalize anything since itself has been stuck in the past for generations. Good luck to those involved but I wouldnt expect much.
