Parkside Forcing Students To Watch Obama

"Joe,

Get this. My daughter goes to Parkside and just texted me and told me that the whole school has stopped teaching the students just to watch the tv today. I don't remember giving them permission to allow this to happen and I don't remember this ever happening before. She actually got in trouble when she put her head down, so she wouldn't have to watch. And ofcourse the Afro-Americans are going crazy. I feel now that Obama is in office the schools are going to be more dangerous than ever. The troublemakers are going to feel that because we have a NON-CAUCASIAN president that they will be able to get away with alot more and make things harder on the student that actually are there to learn. I would like to know the opinions of everyone that reads your blog."

I think that person has terrible views.

It may be wrong of Parkside to force students to watch the inauguration... especially with out contacting parents. But it sounds to me like that is not your real issue... and the fact that you use the term 'non-Caucasian' makes me think your prejudice maybe hidden but still exists... good luck with that.

What a ridiculous way to think!

OK, here's my opinion.

After receiving a message from a brother whos sister was assaulted at the Movie Theater the other day, I will always wonder what messages like the one you received from your dauighter are accurate from this point forward.

I am by no means stating you or your daughter are lying. I am simply saying in a short text message I'm sure there's more to the story.

That being said, it hasn't been 30 minutes and some have simply not given this man and his Administration a chance.

I'll say this, BUSH leaves the White House a total piece of crap who did NOT perform his duties by protecting America. For far too many years we have ignored the reality right in front of our faces and that includes Clinton. Obama has a very difficult job to do from this point forward and I can assure you, the Bailouts won't help matters at all.

I don't care who was elected President and sworn in today, the Presiden't job is the most difficult job RIGHT NOW than ever before throughout history.

Kennedy said it best, "It's not what your country can do for you, it's what you can do for your country."

First of all I don't believe this post. Even if it were true, of all instead of whining, why don't you go down to the school as complain?

That's right because its not true.

I think you need to get a life, get out more, and meet people different than you and your family and friends. We are not a nation of white people. Move on.

anonymous 12:46,

I have the e-mail address from the person who sent this information in, it's real. Now, the story, that's up to you to decide.

Anonymous said...

Thinking back when I was in school... I really HATED when they stopped from lectures and assigning homework to show ANYTHING on tv. LOL

Anonymous said...

I may be behind on things, but what is a "W" shirt?

Anonymous said...

It is only 1:00. I would like have parents comment on how their kids day was once they talk to them after school. I have heard a few parents talking about kids chanting O B A M A down the hallways.

Anonymous said...

Sorry I meant that I don't believe the story is true.

Anonymous said...

Get over it. History in the making should be shown but not forced. Tell your daughter to grow up. Many people are forced to do things they don't always want to do. Welcome to the real world.

Anonymous said...

My daughter goes to Parkside as well and she told me last week that they would be watching the inauguration today.

Anonymous said...

I just text my son and he confirmed that Parkside did in fact watch the inauguration speech. The last time I remember school being stopped for an historic event was for the first landing of the space shuttle. Although I did not vote for President Obama and don't agree with some of his policies, at least the policies that we know about, it is however a historic event that an African American has now become President. It does show how far the country has come in the last 40 yrs.
I do feel however that the parents should have been notified before hand and that the students should have had the choice, thats the only reservation I have about the decision. Handling this way makes one wonder if the BOE was hiding the fact because of the complaints they had already received. HMMMMM, makes you wonder?

Heaven forbid students are "forced" to do something in school.

Please tell me where the school is that students go to voluntarily and then do whatever they want when they get there.

Lol Two Sentz... was thinking the same thing! I hated being forced to watch history shows. I should have known to just text my mommy... back in the 80's.

If they didn't allow the students to watch the inauguration people would be complaining. The school allows it and you complain. If you don't like what the schools are doing...HOME SCHOOL your kids and teach them what you want them to learn. I'm sure they'll qualify for something in life, even if it is something as lowly as being a bigot. God forbid your child grows to be a better person than you.

Get over it. Obama is the POTUS. All of your pissing and moaning won't change one thing.

Anonymous said...

Anon127 - AMEN!!

Anonymous said...

So now we're going to elect people based on what misguided attitude some people may cop as a result?

Get real. If someone misbehaves for that reason, you correct the behavior and the false perception that such belief excuses bad behavior.

Kids aren't supposed to put their heads on their desks just because they don't like the instruction. You complain about that misbehavior but are alarmed at happy kids chanting the president's name in the hallway (where they have more latitude than in the classroom)?

Get a grip and a clue and grow up.

Anonymous said...

How about this is history...period...end of story!
Why is your daughter texting on school time anyway??
Sounds to me like a lot of people need to just chill out, give our new president the chance to come through on his promises and pull together as a country.
Oh yeah, I didn't vote for him either...I'm country first! That being said, put your country first and stand behind it. One man can't change anything in this country without support. So, just maybe you should hope that the people he has to answer too support him. Negativity at this point is only going to make you even more stupid. Get caught up on your history and learn a little something before you stick your foot in your mouth again. Fear will drive this country backwards and we need to move forward!
Were any of your forced to watch the Challenger take off? I was, because it was history! It was life, it was tragic it was many many things, but in its simplest form, it was history. We must value history and learn from it so we don't doom ourselves to repeat its mistakes.

It's history what better way to learn about it than to watch it happening? You send your child to school to become educated, so they can form their own judgments and in the future make their voice heard. When I was in high school(WiHi '00) we watched the inauguration of the new president. It's not something new. The fact that they wouldn't let them put their heads down would be because they're supposed to be paying attention and not sleeping in class. I'm sure President Obama will be in contact with all the troublemakers at all the high schools across the country to make sure that they're giving students who are there to learn a hard time. I think that was one of the first things he said in his inauguration speech, but you and your daughter probably missed it because you had your heads down or you were too busy texting back and forth while your daughter is supposed to learning. If you don't like the way things are handled at your daughter's school go to the administration and voice your opinions to them. I'm going to put my head down so I don't have to watch the rest of this.

Did you give permission for any other activities at school except for field trips? Did you give specific permission for your child to join in Presidents' Day activities, Valentines, Thanksgiving? No. Stop your whining and stop your hating.

Anonymous said...

These parents complaining about their precious kids having to watch today's historical event (no matter who is being sworn in) are the same parents who are TEXTING their kids during school???

Now THERE is a problem!

Anonymous said...

Yes it is history in the making, however I don't think the BOE should force any particular political view on anyone. As far as what school you can go to and do whatever you want. The answer would be any or all public schools. That is why we have metal detectors and Deputy Sheriffs in the public schools today. It never used to be that way. If you were bad in class or fighting you went to the principals office and got a spanking. then probably got another one at home from your dad.
And if it is okay to watch Obama then why suspend the kid with the W tee shirt. Is that what it is coming to if you don't agree with Obama you get suspended in school or arrestted in public. All I can say is good-bye to a free America hello to martial law.

Anonymous said...

How is watching the inauguration become a negative thing! Regardless what race our president is, its a great learning experience! Your children have a chance to be a part of history!!! Why is that bad??? Heck, my mother still remembers the day the teaching stopped in her school because Kennedy was shot... its history!!

Anonymous said...

So, I wonder what would have happened if McCain was elected, and someone wore an Obama shirt? NOTHING, because they would all be in class like any other normal day. Freedom of speech only holds true if it is a liberal expressing it. I hope this brings a law suit, and I will bet ACLU won't get into it!!!
Lay it on.

It does not take a genious to understand why the schools and America in general will become a more dangerous place to live now that Obama is Prez.

I work in an elementary and middle school. I was in the cafeteria today and it went very well. I do not work in the cafe. Some students wore shirts and ties and some girls dressed also for the occasion. All we asked was to keep their voices down for the ones who wanted to watch. The students, all 4 grades, were very respectable. And, some, were interested. Sorry about the student in Parkside who texted her Mom. The phones are supposed to be turned off. Hope Mom reminds her daughter of that, as, it is a school policy. Like I told some students, we need to give him a chance. Students in todays world are not ignorant to what is going on. Let's teach them respect. It is our future. Wish I could say our school name, because I was very proud of our students and the staff.

Anonymous said...

Why are you texting your kids during school hours?

Anonymous said...

It seems to me the schools cross a line. To show the inauguration is one thing (i think they should show all of them). However, my son's school told all of the children to wear red, white and blue in support of Obama. The fact is some of us don't support him and I don't think it's appropriate to tell the children too. To teach the historical importance is one thing, to sway opinions is another and I think that is where the gray area is.

Anonymous said...

I went to Parkside and the entire school ground to a stop on Sept. 11 and everyone was forced to watch that regardless of if they wanted to or not. I don't see how taking an hour or two to watch another historic event is any different.

Anonymous said...

Let's pay more taxes so we can see endless reruns of the Coronation on Public TV and PAC-14!

Anonymous said...

I remember when I was in school we had to watch the inaugurations. We also had to watch the shuttles taking off & land (until we saw one explode - then they thought that it was a bad idea). I think all schools should have the kids watch these things. Its History. Period. It doesn't matter if its BLACK or WHITE. Its HISTORY. And I think the mistake was NOT watching any of the previous ones.

What everyone does seem to be missing is THIS one IS more historical BECAUSE he is the first biracial president. Its a huge step forward for everyone. EVERYONE. Unfortunately people are to afraid to say that. It is what it is. And it IS a good thing. And again I say -for EVERYONE.

By the way - I doubt the kid got in trouble because she didn't want to watch "the African American" president get inaugurated. I used to get in trouble for putting my head down during ANYTHING they showed on tv. History movies, Science movies it didn't matter, if I even looked like my head was not fully upright (or anyone else for that matter) the teacher would call out our name or threaten to send us to the office.

Frankly, Joe, I am surprised you published this one, because it's going to get ugly for sure.

It is my opinion as a middle-aged, white woman that you sir have an issue other then letting your daughter watch a historical moment. All schools shoud be allowing the children to watch what so many of us have witnessed today. It is a historical event one because we have elected and inaugurated a new President of the United States of America. Two, yes, he is an Afro-American man, but let that not stop you from knowing he is a well-educated and articulate man who deserves your respect because if nothing else he IS the President of our great Nation.

I also have children in two different schools and both were told that the election would be watched today at school because of the historical value it held. So I would say that most schools, teachers, administrators, and parents should have known this would happen today. As for the students acting out, well this is an important day for some of them. Others will use it to start trouble, but the schools still have rules and these students are not beyond being sent to the office for corrective measures if it had gotten out of hand.

If you are that much against your daughter having a genuine, first-hand history lesson, then maybe you should have let her stay home to play her WII or Playststion or text to her friends until her heart's desire, or maybe you should think about home schooling her so you do not have to let her watch something of substance and educational, and let her go back to watching the killing, sex and other crap that you see on t.v.

President Obama, like it or not, is our future for the next 4 years. Give him and his adminsitration a chance to at least get something started before bringing your prejudice to the table.

How many of you had buy clothes for your kids to fit into the strongly suggested attire? I don't mind if they watch the inauguration but why did it have to cost me money that wasn't in my budget. Mrs. Handy said if the school wanted them to wear clothing asked of them and they didn't it should count against their grade. That is shameful on WCBOE.

I know, let me create a Blog that says everything you want to hear. You know, kind of like the Daily Times.

There is no foul language within these comments and people have the right to their opinions.

If you think I agree with each and every comment you'd be sadly mistaken.

Now, mind you, there have been probably 400 e-mail messages that have come into my mailbox today and I am doing my very best to field all of these comments at once. I have rejected MANY racist remarks as well as some with curse words in them. I have to read each and every one of these and I'm doing my best.

I was speaking to a Judge a while back ago and he said, you know Joe, 50% of the people coming through here aren't happy with my decisions because 50% of them walking out do so as a loser. I can't make everyone happy either so get used to how the Eastern Shore thinks.

My children go there and one of them told me their history teacher bashed Bush all the time and if they try to voice their opinion she would go off. Let's face it, for the most part school systems are liberal and they are going to force the liberal crap on our kids. Watching Obama is okay with me, but the problem i have is they never watched any other inaugurations at school.

You people are all idiots.....You call this HISTORY??? What you call history, alot of us smarter folk call RASCISM!! What makes this any different than all of the past inaugurations?? I'll tell ya..RASCISM!!! The government and media are making this a RACIAL issue. He isn't just the 44th president, he is the first BLACK President (whoopteedoo). Black or White, he has a job to do, but the media won't let us forget what color president we have. If you are smart enough you will realize that the only reason everything has stopped today is rascism, plain and simple.I am not saying that Obama doesn't have a difficult job ahead of him, I just hope that he can and will do what he has said he will.

joe albero said...

As for the tee shirt comment, I would have to agree with many people here, it's probably not true. They gave no real reason why the kid would have been suspended but like many other comments without a name to them, you have to take them with a grain of salt. The ONLY comments trustworthy are those in which they sign their name.

You know what the funny thing about all of this is... You say it’s not a race issue but all I here is a lot of talk about it being a black man elected or a white man elected or a bi-racial elected. But yet still all I here is History a black man has been elected WHO CARES He is now the President Of The United States Of America. PERIOD. What’s done is done. If it weren’t a Race Issue then why keep saying it. So there is only one of two things left to do 1.) Shut Up and help support this guy make this Country great again or 2.) LEAVE!!!

Anonymous said...

Folks...they weren't being "forced" to watch the Democratic National Convention or the Republican National Convention.

They were watching the Inauguration of the President of the United States, and YOU are making it political. Not the kids. Not the Board of Ed. Not the teachers. Not the principals.

YOU are making it political.

Funny how some of you were incensed that sometimes Obama didn't wear a flag lapel pin as a sign of patriotism. Yet watching the Inauguration of a president is not patriotic.

Tell you what. Let's just pull ALL civics instruction out of our schools. Then we can raise generation after generation of people who don't know how our government works, who the president is, or how to go vote.

Anonymous said...

I can't wait to have kids just to prove there are actually smart, clear thinking parents out there.

Some of this stuff around here is just ridiculous.

Anonymous said...

I think the children should have to watch every inauguration. It is an important part of history. In the future they will be able to say I watched the inauguration and will appreciate it much more later in life. People need to just shut up already about this issue. They watched it. So what!! I'm sure there are things that this parent watched in school and was glad that they had that opportunity. I wish I had nothing better to do than feed into my child's drama.

joe albero said...

I just put this up on another Post but it's fitting here as well.

Will you people cut the crap about Miss Black America and Black Colleges. If you don't have any idea just how ignorant you look, well, you do. Just because a Black President is now in Office doesn't cure all the hatred and pain many have suffered in this Country. There's no equality TODAY just because there's a Black President in Office.

The same can be said about the American Indians. When have they EVER been treated fairly and equally?

TODAY starts a NEW Chapter in History. Do you actually believe this President is going to come into Office and change the laws so that every time a Black person calls a white man a Honkey it will be considered a Hate Crime?

Get your head out of your rear end and accept TODAY for what it is. President Obama has defeated ALL odds and this Country will be better off for todays change.

I told you people, it's going to get a lot worse before it gets better.

When the Supreme Court granted you your precious little abortion rights they were the greatest body on the planet. When they "picked" a winner to the 2000 election so the country could get on with its life they were the most corrupt body on the planet and Bush is an illegitimate president. You people are a joke.
Joe, you said "I'll say this, BUSH leaves the White House a total piece of crap who did NOT perform his duties by protecting America."
I am not sure what country you are living in but we have not been attacked since 9-11. Everyone including Bush said we would be attacked again before the end of his second term. I think he did a very good job of keeping us safe. He may have pissed off the entire world and listened in on your precious little conversations with your granny in Iowa but we have been safe. Com'on! Bush did a terrible job and he even admitted of all the screw ups. We don't get attacked under every President so the 9-11 story doesn't hold water. It's sad enough that it even happened in the first place. Would have been nice if Bush dumped all our troops in the right area to catch the man behind 9-11.

So we all should unite behind Obama because he's your guy? But when the tables are turned and you are asked to stand behind our president, that's not gonna happen because you don't like Bush. Guess what? I don't like Obama. I don't support him or his views and don't see the difference betweeen me not supporting Obama and you not supporting Bush. Talk about a double standard. Bush admitted his mistakes, that's what true men do. I'm sure Obama will make mistakes, lets see if he owns up to them. Our presidents are people, they are human, they do make mistakes.

This "liberal" stood behind Bush when he sent troops into Afghanistan to get at the Taliban after 9/11, so there goes your argument, Sean. But when he contracted out the hit on bin Ladin to warlords we had been fighting only recently before and went into Iraq, THAT'S when I stopped standing behind him.

Anon 2:01 said, "The fact is some of us don't support him and I don't think it's appropriate to tell the children too. To teach the historical importance is one thing, to sway opinions is another and I think that is where the gray area is."

I think what you're saying here is that YOU will be the one to sway your children's opinions? Let's just expose them to your ideas, and your ideas only, shall we? That will certainly help them make an informed choice, won't it?

IMHO, all Presidential Inaugurations should be shown in school. It doesn't matter whom you have supported in the election; what matters is that it is history. I'm not sure, but I think that's one of the subjects they teach in school.

Anonymous said...

Yet Parkside, as a public school, can host religious meetings on its premises!?

I have a serious issue with the general apathy regarding maintaining the separation of Church and State, but you don't hear me belly-achin' about it in an online forum. What would that ACTUALLY accomplish!?

About as much as this post/complaint accomplishes; nothing but a sense of anonymous release.

The Presidential Inauguration, especially THIS one, is an HISTORICAL event.

The taxpayers PAY for our kids to learn about History, especially American History. In addition, the students are getting scholastic credit in the process.

Makes sense to me!

I'm the parent of a student with multiple disabilities and even SHE thought the schools should have been closed today in order to watch the WHOLE process if they wanted to.

I'm sorry now, that I didn't let her.

The students aren't being FORCED to do anything... except sing out-right, religious HYMNS just so they can participate and learn about singing in a chorus.

Where are you (the original poster) when they're "forced" to do that!?

The motivation for showing the Inauguration on TV is INSTRUCTIONAL, not political and not religious.

That's what we PAY them for.

The author of the original post thinks that the schools will be more dangerous now. Why would they? Don't you think it's a good thing that the black kids are happy about having Obama as president? It's better than them being angry all the time. Don't you think that Obama is a good role model for the black youth? Maybe his influence and being a role model will keep them in school. Inspire them to go to college and get good jobs instead of joining gangs and being violent. Get married and actually raise and support their children for a change. Maybe even make them have more respect for themselves. It is possible that he will have a positive effect.

i agree with the parkside mom my child goes there to and was also forced to watch this...... i do not approve they never stop to think about the people who do not aprove they just demanded our children to take part in this i thought this was a free country but i guess its not anymore. i do not have a problen with his skin color i have a problem that this was not done for any other presidents in the past. there for it is not right to do this. if this is not about race then why all the special treatment he is just a man its not like he is god they took prayer out of our schools but yet its ok to force children to watch things they do not support

And then we had the students at Parkside who refused to say the Pledge of Allegiance and they are NOT forced to say it. So, why did our kids have OBAMA forced down their throats today at Parkside? And all the other schools?

6:09 My name is Sean you can address me as such. As you can see I do not sign my post Anonymous because like Bush I am a principled person and I stand on my convictions no matter who I am talking to.
It is easy for you to say "I stood behind Bush until...(insert lame excuse here)......" When Obama actually does something good for this country then I will support him. He voted "present" more times in the Ill State Senate and the US Senate than he actually stood for something. You must admit Bush committed to something and he stuck to it. We made a commitment to the people of Iraq and we have to stand by it. Your precious Obama is even wise enough to know pulling out troops out of Iraq would be a disaster. Just like we have troops in Germany, Korea, and Japan we will have troops in Iraq when you(Mr. 6:09) and I are dead and gone.
We can have out "heated" debates about Bush and Obama all day and I will respect your views, even if you are wrong;-) but I must say the person who originally posted the story is a true Shore Billy and should be ashamed of their self. I do not have a problem with Obama being black, green, or purple and anyone that does should go join Robert Byrd at his next Klan meeting. I think this country is ready for any ethnicity or gender. I just think there are black Americans that would have better served the constitution of the United States. Even though he was not seeking the office of President I think Michael Steele is a great guy and would make a wonderful leader.

If we can see past his color ? This was one of the bases of obamas campaign.

Whats been running through my mind is how much has been spent, during this time of depression, on obamas "party". With all the money spent on "teaching" out children about racism added to the cost of the inauguration .

Could the money have been spent more constructively ? Ofcoarse it could. Are we sending our children the message that when money gets tight , throw a party and spend more ? Is this truely responsible ?

Now I think I will stop watching the news or any boob tube for about a year so that I dont have to be reminded of just how irresponsible Americans are.

If he ran as just another "person" seeking election then it wouldnt leave such a sour taste , yet he manipulated America with a underlining theme that he would end prejudice and create equality.

And this is something "he" cant do ! The same goes for our schools.

They didnt have to focus on the fact that obama is "black". They should be smarter than that. Focus on the issue of a "new" president taking office. But I cant blame them because this is exactly what obama won the election under.

Some one said something to me today that rose my interest. They commented to me " If you are so disatisfied with obama , you sure are watching him alot". All I can wonder is why he wasnt ! And are there many others who dont care for this politician who are "just not watching" .

It is our not watching that has allowed all that bailout money to be stolen from every American. And it is our not watching that has allowed millions of dollars to have been wasted on a day of celebrating when our country is on the brink of bankruptcy.

Oprah , if you by chance read this blog, would you spend some of your money , that is way far in excess of what you could physically spend in this life time yourself,on helping Americans ? Dont just spend it on obama .

Weather you see it or not folks, we are heading to a socialist country. The government is buying up the banks. And he who owns the banks control the people.

As far as racism goes. Whats next ? Lets say we are all the same "color" . Is it going to be about the length of your nose ? You can not make people think the same. God gave us all a soul. And freedom to choose what each one of us wants.

If something bothers some one else, look at it and figure out what bothers you and change the thing you can and except the things you cant. Except but dont close your minds . Dont feel that if you cant see it it isnt there. Cause "we" as Americans are being robbed blind right in front of our noses.

Those that are better hersed with Government should help those that arnt to be able to voice every persons veiws.

Sortta what Joe has done here. If obama is not the right guy for the "job" of recovering our country then time will tell. But if you are not being aware of what is going on and expressing your thoughts then you deserve exactly what you get. But dont force your destiny on those of us who do care.

Enough said for now. Thank you for letting me express my veiws.

P.S. I didnt vote for the "whack" nor do I support him. And I didnt contribute to the countrys bankruptcy either!

Joe,

When you say he didn't protect America, what exactly do you mean?

He certainly made many mistakes (imo) but he most definitely protected us.

He may go down as one of the worst wartime presidents in history. I think he worried way too much about what other countries though of the War in Iraq which led to many failures in decision making. The interest rates were lowered too much too fast after 9/11, but he was up against tremendous circumstances.

He wasn't conservative enough for me.

But the fact that our nation went another 7 years without a terrorist attack is monumental. I wonder if this president will be able to say the same thing after the next four years. Will we blame Obama if we're successfully attacked again during his watch? Because we would have been all too quick to blame Bush if it had happened again on his. I must admit that Obama is an exceptional speaker. Let's just see if he makes good on all the promises he made that got him where he is.

I believe that Bush fell short in many areas but defending his country wasn't one of them.

no kid was forced. This was a historic event that was shared at Parkside.

TO ALL YOU STUPID PEOPLE
i am the daughter who txted my dad and told him
its ridicolus how we didnt watch any other presidnets get sworn in, and i can understand if we watched it in history but i was watchign this in freakin SPANISH CLASS! where i should be studying for HSA's and not OBAMA, he is NOT going to be on tht test (the one you have to pass to pass highshcool) Its Absolutly ridiclous, and it yall took the time out to really think about it it IS because he is black

I'm a student who attends parkside and today was just ridiculous. We were made to watch it. Shame on the Board of Ed. It was terrible. A friend of mine was sent out for cheering! Ridiculous! I had better things to do-- Like prepare for midterms that are tomorrow through Friday!

Anonymous said...

I kept my child home from school because he was able to watch Obama screw up a 30 second oath in the comfort of our home. Ha Ha

Anonymous said...

Thank you 8:03, 8:06 and 8:07. I know where you are coming from. My son attends Parkside and yes, I did hear it was a ridiculous that they had to watch it during the school day. I really do feel the BOE went over the edge on this one. They dont tell the kids that wont stand up for the Pledge of Allegiance they HAVE to stand up! So, why was my child told they HAD to watch this comedy show!

Anonymous said...

This may be off subject because I think this whole situation is crazy GROW UP!

Your kid sent you a text mssage well students are not to use their cell phones in school. They should not be texting you and shame on those of you that are texting your kids while they are in school. We wonder why kids can't follow rules when they are made to think they don't have to!

Anonymous said...

With kids texting what is going on in the schools , it kindda stops your free reign over teaching huh ? No more surprizes, what a tragidy. I guess this is sort of like being transparent huh ?

I like it....I like it a lot!

Anonymous said...

To all saying things about texting in school. I understand why, what are you gonna do when you are bored to death watching TV? Even watching the inauguration to boot. Its stupid to sit there and not be challenged for the day with something that is useful. I gained nothing from it. We have mid terms tomorow through friday. We should have been preparing for them!

Anonymous said...

Excuse me sir but it seems as though you are implying that "afro americans" do not go to school for anything else but to start trouble. So Mr Albero, your comment leads me to believe that you are in fact a prejudice man and with that said, i think its time you re-evaluate how you express yourself if you indeed do not believe you are a prejudice man.

Anonymous said...

Austin, which comment would that be?

Anonymous said...

I am from New York and i can't remember a time where they didn't make us watch a presidential inauguration, or any important televised event. History was made today whether you all like it or not and our children are the future to this country. Im glad they are going to be raised in a country where people are equal. As for the parents who dont agree with their children watching this, its your fault that racism still exists in this country and you are teaching your children to be the same.

Anonymous said...

None of the students should have cell phones at school, period.
They are not needed and are only a distraction. Like they need more distractions?

2:06 PM

This is what Im pretty concerned about. Isnt it illegal for them to have the phones in school to begin with. I rememeber, we could be arrested for having pagers ( normal or FD pagers) while on school property. Maybe if these kids were more concerned about learning and leaving these damn phones home, the world might be a better place.

And yes, in all my years of school, anytime there was an inauguration, and we were in school, we watched it.

And to the original poster, wtf is a afro-american. isnt that some kind of racial slur??

Anonymous said...

No one expected the students to support Obama - they watched him get sworn in plain and simple. It is learning about the political process first hand. I agree that too much was made out of this inauguration as nothing was done for previous ones. Hopefully future inaugurations get as much attention. But for real - to be so mad at the school for using a teachable moment? And for not asking permission? That is crazy!

By the way, after reading anon 8:03 the original poster has more important things to worry about - like his high school daughter can't write or spell!

Listen up Parents! The schools make decisions regarding the curriculum. The teachers are trained/educated to make your child a good citizen despite some ignorant parents who are still prejudice. So stay out of the school's business and let them educate your little Billy. The teachers know best. Since we have a new president who is black, it would be nice for every white person to say something nice about Obama as well make some black friends. Invite them to a barbecue at your home if they are a neighbor. We are all Americans and must work together now for America. White people are no better than blacks. We must become one race over time through inter-marriage to end all prejudice.

I voted for President Obama as well, and I am very happy that he is our 44th president. However every one saying he is the "first Black President"I disagree with and I personally have never used those words to describe him!I do belive however it is a big step up! It just upsets me to think if one of my sons ran for president (whose mother and father are both black people) they would not be acknowledged as the first black president! The first black title should go to Michele Obama!! She is the first "BLACK" first lady!! I do believe that is the reason why alot of caucasians didnt vote for obama because of his African American wife!!

Bottom line I am very excited about our New President of the United States! Lets just stop with the "First Black Stuff"! There is enough BI Racial people in this world now for them to have their own race!!!

I have spent alot of time volunteering in my child's school and while many teachers are wonderful, it is ridiculous to think all teachers are some great moral compass to guide my child. It is my responsibility and right to teach my child my views and morals, not the public school system. They have enough trouble getting the children to pass standardized testing, perhaps they should focus more on the basics, such as reading, math, english, etc. And as for saying every white person should say something nice about Obama and invite a black person to their house for a barbeque, could you be more racist?

Anonymous said...

Actually 8:07 if you had watched ABC's live coverage what ACTUALLY happened was the person reading the oath to Obama messed up the wording and Obama paused, waiting for him to correct the wording.

I thought at first he messed up due to nerves, but then later the main anchor woman commented stating that Obama paused waiting for hi to correct his mistake so the oath could be done correctly.

I am sure you can find the coverage online somewhere. I have it on the DVR, but have no idea how to get it on here or I would certainly be glad to send it to you JUST to hush you up.

I have said it before, and I will say it again...we should research before we go landblasting someone without knowing all the details now shouldn't we....

Joe, Thanks your for candid and spot on description of the Bush aftermath. And to think I once voted for him!

Sean,
Withdrawing support of a President who ran away to Iraq on false pretenses when we had the man responsible for 9/11 in our sights is a "lame excuse?" Osama bin Laden is still out there because of G.W. Bush! You call that a "lame excuse?"

You boggle my mind.

Allow me to clear up some of the dumber comments here:
John Roberts (Supreme Court Justice) was the one who screwed up the oath, and Obama was trying to get him to do it right, but Roberts couldn't remember it. Obama's hand was clearly on the Bible. And the students who posted here really need to go back to school and read something. Quit your whining about not being able to prepare for midterms--if you were a decent student you would be prepared by now. Try working hard outside of class for a change. And to the parents whining that kids shouldn't be forced to do anything in school, or that they were bored: how about asking your kid whether they would rather read Shakespeare, study calculus, or learn abot history on the one hand, or would they rather play video games and text each other all day long while eating Cheetos on the other hand? Hmmm . . . I wonder what the precious little geniuses would choose? Give me a break.

Anonymous said...

Sean,

First, I think it is funnny that you think you are noble for using your first name here. Ok, big deal. Now, back to the original point. You claimed liberals never supported Bush. I and several other commentators pointed out the EVERYONE was behind him after 9/11, but then he blew it, big time. So we have met your conditions--there was a time when liberals supported Bush. So now you have to follow what you said you would do, which is to support Obama until he gives you a reason not to do so.

To the student who sent the original text to her Dad:

People would be complaining if it was TiVoe'd or saved in some other manner for you to watch it in History class, too.

Not only that, but History is offered based on age group, so not all students would have had access to watching this, even if they'd wanted to.

It just-so-happened that the inauguration took place during YOUR spanish class. There was no insidious plot to disrupt your day...

If the school administrators could FORCE you to do anything, they'd surely FORCE you to learn something the first time 'round.

My point being: Your BODY was present and that may have been a requirement of any ordinary school-day... but they can't force you to pay attention, or learn anything in the process, either. ;)

"You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink" afterall.

To the Anonymous Poster at 8:53 this morning, regarding your comment about having kept up with studies all along:

"Hear! Hear!" Excellent point :)

And for what it's worth to anyone:

Mr Vice President, Joe Biden, ALSO hesitated a couple of times while taking HIS oath... and made a mistake in repeating the proper word, as well.

But I'd bet none of US would have done that in his position, right?

Ugh.

joe albero said...

Theresa, Obama did NOTU mess up his lines. The Chief Justice did.

*nods*

Makes sense to me. I wasn't commenting that President Obama made a mistake, anyway.

I was saying that whether it was the Chief Justice (as mentioned) or Obama (as some folks want to believe)....

"He"....

.... wasn't the only one.

Thanks for the opportunity to clarify, Joe.

I DID NOT SEND MY CHILDREN TO SCHOOL YESTERDAY. BECAUSE I THINK THIS WAS ALL ABOUT RACE..... WHEN THE TRUTH AS NOT BEEN TO TOLD OBAMA IS NOT A AFRICAN AMERICAN HE IS A MULATTO. HE SAID HIS SELF THAT HE WAS A MUTT AND I AGREE.SO HE SOULD NOT GO DOWN IN HISTORY AS THE FIRST BLACK PRESIDENT BUT HIS WIFE SHOULD GO DOWN IN HISTORY AS THE FIRST BLACK LADY. I ALSO DO NOT AGREE WITH HIS MOTHER IN LAW LIVINIG THE WHITE HOUSE SHE HAS NO RIGHT TO LIVE THERE WHATS NEXT

yeah you're right cause the inaugeration is no form of knowlage or history right? so your daughter should be able to sleeep in class which violates the code of conduct aswell as texting you in class you sound like a great parent
