Gotta Love The City Of Salisbury, NOT!

"Joe,

Can you recommend any reasonably priced and reliable companies that can power wash house exteriors? The lovely City of Salisbury code officer decided to leave us a pink notice requiring us to clean the side of our house to remove mildew/mold ASAP, or we will receive a fine.

Now, I will say that this was on our to do list for this spring/ summer when we had the extra funds, and it may not especially be pretty for people to look at when they are driving by, but at least the house is not dilapidated and falling down as are some houses in the local area. We actually have a nearby neighbor on our street, whose house you can't even see due to the "forest" of overgrown trees, shrubs, etc. in the front and side yard. Not to mention the junk filled backyard. Yet they have never received a dreaded pink notice.

The economy is going down the drain. People are barely making a living, and the city is going to fine you for the side of your house being greenish. Gotta Love the City of Salisbury....Not!!!

Use a garden pump sprayer and do it yourself. Dilute bleach, two parts water with one part bleach. Spray mildew, wait about 10 minutes and hose it down with a garden hose and watch the mildew dissappear.

Then drive over to Onley RD by the Zoo across from SSU football field, hang a left then look for Perry Drive, Perry is a circle, take the second entrance to Perry, make the first right and look at the rental house about 5 houses down on your right. Take a picture, fill out the paper work and drop it off to code and compliance.

Official city documents to do this can be printed from the city's web site.

Do you live in a neighborhood? If so then that is why it was reported.

Either way I personally like salisbury. Not too much trouble, 30 minutes from the beach...

Sparkle Wash... Great cleaning and very fair in the pricing.

Opps those directions to Perry should have read make the first left after entering the second entrance to Perry DR. About 5 houses doen on you're right, you will be looking right at it. Sorry bout dat

Anyone who gets a citation can take a short 5 minute ride and find 20 houses worse than yours, just do it and report it

Quit your whinning and just let the mayor buy your house already. Cause she will not let you alone untill she gets what she wants. Next will be the grass growing in between the side walk expansion joints. Then it will be the placement of you trash cans. then the number of vehicles you have parked at your residence and the list goes on and on and on....

But really, just use some bleach and "robatuson" it clears up "what ails ya" pretty good.

Tell them when they clean up the river and the city you will clean the side of your home, in other words "tell them to go ---- themselves".

I know it's cold, but if you have one of those insecticide sprayers for your hose, they have plenty if reach to get the bleach up there. Just watch out for wind and backsplash. Put it on heavy; wait 10, rinse.

Be careful with the bleach! Or next thing you know you will be cited for dispencing "harmful substances". lol

What's ironic is the condition of Barrie's properties in Salisbury. The blog should post pictures! Apparently she is exempt from all rules, including snow removal from sidewalks.

The key here is just as you mentioned, "The economy is down the drain", funds are tight so the employees of the city are being focused into different things, things that the city didn't give a rats a$$ about until now when times are tight. This is a good old fashion revenue generator!!! Local politics at its finest...Gotta keep some funds coming in somehow. Ask them to clean up the overpass by Main Street and 13 (next to Royal Farms), and take care of the homeless living in that big bush at the top of the hill. That is a horrible site and my 11 yr old says "do all cities look like this, and have people living in bushes"? The city has focused on the wrong things for years.

i have always used easternshore powerwashing. Sparkle Wash has always been way over priced. there are plenty of weekend warroirs out there doing good jobs too.

Take a long pole and tie a rag around the end. Soak it good with bleach and rub the "green". It will come right off. That's what I do.

Oh do not get me started on the compliance people.
In my personal experience I removed the tags from a car I was getting ready to sell and before 24 hours had passed there was a guy with a clipboard citing me for it.Fast forward several months later, when Salisbury got some rare snow. I was the ONLY resident on my block who bothered to shovel the sidewalks as required, nobody else bothered but they did not get citations either.I am guessing my slumlord was not in good enough with the city at the time.....

Something else to consider....instead of hiring someone maybe you can rent a power-washer or borrow one from someone you know who has one.Saves money but still effective.

Just tell them you are going GREEN.

Years ago, I received a notice on my garbage can, something to the effect that it was 5 gallons over what was allowed and to buy a smaller one or my trash would not be picked up. The next week, I set out 15 small, 1 gallon cans with a bag of trash in each. They did not like that either. No sense of humor I guess.

You must live close to me. I also received a pink notice yesterday for mildew on the side of my house. I live in the Dover Dale Playground area. I saw at least five other houses on my street that had notices posted on their doors when I was driving home from work.

I too have had many notices for little crap from the city. Grass in the sidewalk cracks, leaves in the gutters, grass behind the fence in my backyard, bags of leaves in my backyard, etc. The crazy thing is for some of these things they have to come on my property and enter my fenced in backyard. Of course they do it when I'm not home. I guess they don't care about private property in Salisbury.

My favorite one from the city is when they repaved the road behind my house and put up a curb. Nice thing for them to do in the city. Except they built the curb 6 inches from my back fence, thus blocking my gate from being able to open. Of course grass now grows between the fence and the curb. So,I have to get in my car with a weed wacker and drive around the block to trim the grass, or I receive a notice from the city. I also have to take a trash bag to pick up all the malt liquor bottles tossed there by the fine citizens of the neighborhood. A 2 minute job is now a pain in the ...

Try Al's Power Wash. He did my house, roof, fence, deck and driveway for a very reasonable price and was very thorough and honest. 302-846-0406 or check out his website at http://algorespowerwash.com/contact.html
