A Comment Worthy Of A Post

Several people have asked good questions about the fundraising for Brooke Mulford. We have received one reply towards this so far and I thought I should share it for open discussion.

"To answer your question, I would say you are missing A WHOLE LOT! So, are you saying that just because a few individuals decided to act NOW instead of waiting for something to happen, as you and many people have done in the past, that Salisbury should not support us in an effort to expose Neuroblastoma and try to raise money to pay for costs not covered by insurance? It is a real shame that you or anyone should have such a burden placed on them.

Insurance doesn't cover everything. The moneys being raised are going towards paying for Brooke's medical costs and any other costs associated with staying in a hospital for weeks on end. There is no absolute cure for this disease. This fight will be a long one. We need all the help we can get.Just so you and everyone is aware, we are in the process of establishing a foundation here that will benefit not only Brooke, but children with similar conditions for years to come.

One question for you, "What did you, your friends, the families you speak of, or any of their friends do to help in their time of need? Did they form a foundation? Did they contact the United Way? Did they reach out to your's and their friends and business partners?"It sounds to me the answer here is not much if anything.I can't help it that I don't know you or your family or those that need help that you speak of. I know Rob, Amy and Brooke. Am I just supposed to sit back and do nothing because no one did anything for you?

Please don't turn something good like helping a little girl in need into something where people begin to doubt the righteousness of Team Brooke's efforts.

Eric Morris"
Publishers Note: I have been involved in many fundraisers throughout my lifetime. This is nothing new and many of us have participated in many other local fundraisers for this same kind of cause. One that stands out in my mind quite a bit is one from Pittsville. Nevertheless, I personally believe the negative comments that have come about on this particular fundraiser is the IDEA that the Mulford's are rich and live in a big house, blah, blah, blah. I mean, lets get right to the punch here. Just because someone owns a Bar/Restaurant does NOT make them rich. Believe me, I have owned a successful Bar/Restaurant and while you can make a good living, you're NOT going to get rich. Well, unless you own Seacrets. Market Street Inn is NOT Seacrets and never will be. The Mulford's have a mortgage on that business and while this child may be rich with love, she is not rich with health right now.

Go get'em Eric. There always will be naysayers and people that see evil in everything. Anybody who attended the bonfire would have seen the best part of this community come together as one for the benefit of this family and possibly other families to come. I was proud to be a part of this benefit and plan on supporting it for a long time to come. MEAN PEOPLE SUCK

Wow I cannot believe people! Are these the same people who cannot print their names? ANYONE who knows Rob, knows that Rob IS NOT RICH HE is just like anyone else trying to make it in the world. SO WHAT! That he lives in Kensington Woods, SO WHAT!...HE Drives a Brand New Expedition although I don’t remember a Mercedes in the Drive way... I service his house Quarterly for pest control services. Rob spends EVERY LAST MINUTE OF HIS DAY on Market street and the bills that go with it....I promise you I have sat and discussed many many times the time consumed by MARKET STREET and the expense to operate it...I have been at Market Street at 1 am as Rob sits at his office for hours on in. I cannon imagine the people that go to work at 8am take till 10;30 before they get in gear to do something, go to lunch at 12pm and get back late....half- assly work the rest of the afternoon and walk away with nothing to worry about at 5pm ....He worries about, Rent,Electric,Gas bills, vendor bills, City regulators, parking, entertainment...and not least of all THE PEOPLE THAT ROB MULFORD EMPLOYS AND PROVIDES A LIVING TO....I Think you people who "Hate" on this are sick, sick people....

Coming from a man that has lost a father, grandfather and several good friends to Cancer, it is a shame that one lashes out at a father and mother who is living the nightmare of having their little girl suffer its grip. The anguish alone of the unknown is bad enough , not to mention fighing with the insurance companies that are suppose to be on their clients side but really work for the medicine companies side. Cancer doesnt care whether rich or poor, young or old, male or female or race, it comes to kill, steal and destroy.
Eric, here's my advice , don't let the a-holes of the world bring you down. Stay strong and lean on the ones that surround you in love. Its only those folks that will be there thick and thin, Lean on friends like Nick and Mel who are walking this same walk with you.
Our prayers are with you and your family.

I heard that when Brooke's mother was pregnant she worked at health south. There was also another woman who became pregnant while working there and her child had the same type of rare cancer. any truth to that?

This is about a sick little girl. Not how much her family makes in a year. You need to hard look in the mirror. If it were your child you would want as much support as you could get. Grow up.

Does someone really think that fundraisers/benefits should only benefit the have nots?? And, how would you define that? This is going to be a time-consuming battle on this family's part- and it is going to be an incredibly expensive one. I can't believe that there are such negative people out there.

As an aside- is there anyway that a post can be done that lists all the businesses that supported the bonfire, and that are set to support future benefits? I know I read something about Starbucks and Outback helping out with donations-I think a list of all business sponsors should be posted. To me, those are the companies/businesses with a true sense of community, and those are the ones that I'd prefer to support if in need of those services.

We are in the process of publishing the list. In fact we took every name Friday night. EVERY NAME. From $1 to $1,000.

Please stay tuned for updates to http://www.BrookeMulford.com .

I'm sure Joe will help get the word out when we are ready for 1,000,000 page views.

To all that came out this weekend to both events and those that are diligently working along side me for future events. MANY, MANY, THANKS!!!!!

As I said on TV the other night, there are no chiefs working on this thing, it's all Wicomico Indians!!!

And for all of the posts here today, it is fuel for my fire. Thanks so much for your support.

Kindest regards,

Eric Morris

I have known Eric Morris for a long time and can promise you he has nothing but great intentions in mind. If someone has a problem with the Mulfords "being rich" then just dont donate anything to the cause. Dont try to ruin a great thing. We as a country have always had the ability to rally around a good cause and raise money for people in need. Now I do not personally know if Rob and his family are rich or not but their financial status should not be up for discussion. Be nice or go the hell away.
Mean People SUCK!
Keep up the good work Eric.

Whether you pay for your own coverage or not, insurance doesn't pay DICK,especially when it comes to serious chronic ailments. They make their stockholders fat by either underpaying or denying claims.
When my daughter, then 3,got something in her eyes that almost blinded her,I incurred several thou in medical bills and while the opthamologists office got paid, the hospital never did.So now I am trying to pay off a $2000 bill that insurance SHOULD HAVE covered,on top of paying like $100 a week for the worthless coverage.Thats a drop in the bucket compared to all the "non-covered" services associated with a childhood cancer and believe me,there is alot that even the best policies will not cover. Any expiremental treatments that might hold out hope for Brooke will definitely be out of pocket.Ease up,people.
And Eric, you are a good friend to volunteer your efforts in organizing all this.

It is inapporpriate for you to promote yourself at a time when the focus should be on Brook's recovery. Maybe when you plan the fundraisers you could check all avenues and ensure that other events that involve Brooke are not conflicting. The SCS gala is the same evening as your planned Secrets event. Pictures on the site should be limited to Brooke and those closest to her. Anonymity should be practiced by those who are truly interested in Brooke and not themselves.
