Just . . . Why?






Why would they send a $.01 check to me, when it costs $.42 to send it. . . not to mention the ink to print everything out, the time involved to write out the memo & address the envelope?
This stupidity is the very reason why I switched banks to a local bank that I can trust.
Just . . . Why?

Why? Because you were owed money! Pretty nice of them to waste their ink, paper, and postage to give you back your remaining money.
Had they kept your penny you would be posting... "it was only 1 penny, but could you imagine the other small amounts they keep from their customers. This is an outrage"

They could have transfered the penny by computer. Of course they
had to make a big deal , got nothing better to do. Most of them sit around the bank and BS for half a day anyway.yada, yada yada

And as for why, because it's in their regs and rules. Although why they could not have called and asked if you wanted it added to your deposit and then sent the deposit slip I don't know. Seems like that would have been about the same amount of effort.

I would not have posted if they didn't send me that penny....I would have paid to close that account. It took their corporate office 2 weeks to send me a letter stating that PNC was holding a $5000 local check for 5 days due to "random check." Then, held another check from this very same customer for $2000 the very next week, but could not explain why it was held. Random again---I think not! That was my breaking point.

At local banks, everyone is on the same page. If they aren't, they call upstairs or at the main branch, which is just a few miles away, to get an answer right away.

Just a big deal to be a smartass in my opinion.

Why? because that is the honest thing to do. In this day and age of people not being honest and taking what is not theirs, that is refreshing to me. Now granted, it would have probably been more constructive if the employee had called you and let you know that but if that happens several times a day and they are not able to reach you that can become an issue. And beign a former bank employee who started as a teller, you HAVE to balance at the end of every day and ANY overage or shortage is not a good thing. More than likely PNC has a very advanced computer system and the chech is probably printed in seconds; and wasting ink, paper, etc, Open one of you bills or just open your mailbox every day. There are much bigger wastes of resources than this.

As for firing someone over that, you must not be a manager/owner or someone with authority because that would land you in hot water in a hurry. As a person who is in charge of others, I think this would have been good to know that a customer thought this was wasteful and would have taken the time to call me and let me know. As managers we cannot be everywhere at all times and unless concerned people bring this to our attention we cannot use it as an educational opportubity with the employee. And why would you not call them to see why such a small check was sent to you? Maybe that is their policy with ANY amount of overage on a deposit. To me, makes it a lot easier to have a straight policy that states any amount of overage results in a check being sent to the customer; no ifs, ands or buts. Makes things a lot easier.
I am not a PNC employee but I am a customer and I have to say that they have the same employees that worked there when it was Mercantile Peninsula and Peninsula Bank. Same local people. It is refreshing at all of the new things they offer and the technology they use and how quickly things can be done. I find that refreshing than a lot of the good old boy network of some of the smaller banks here. Just my two, well three cents.

sunnyinoc... my credit union always puts a hold (2 days) on deposits over $500. dont think it is anything out of the ordinary.

It is out of the ordinary due to PNC. In writing, it states all local checks - funds available next day. Furthermore, this person who wrote this check to me has written a check to me that was deposited into PNC bank every week for the past two years with no problems.

I am a PNC customer...have been since it was Peninsula Bank (then Mercantile Peninsula). While I agree that it's refreshing to see the same local faces in the branch I frequent, it's just not the same, knowing they're not a "local" bank anymore.

If it wasn't such a PITA to switch banks, I'd do it in a heartbeat, other than the fact that it's more inconvenient to bank at "local" banks due to the lower # of locations they have.

pnc will not even cash a check for you in their drive through unless you have an account there, even if you provide them with identification.

You know by posting this on this site--you have now put that PNC employees signature out there. Anybody could now copy that signature and do all kinds of bad stuff. They did it using the Maryland Land Records. Just thought you might want to rethink this picture and atleast black out the signature.

At least they sent you a check. maybe they tried to reach you and you didn't answer. You should appriciate that they sent it to you. PNC is a great bank and I love that their products are more up to speed than other "local" banks are. BTW where I go, the faces are still the same as before.

I used to work in a highly regulated financial environment, and taking somebody's money in any amount can be a big black mark that invites a much more extensive audit from regulators.

While it seems silly to mail you this check, technically they are following their regulations to a tee and doing what they should. Smart people aren't the ones making all the rules, they are the ones who follow them.

hebron Savings does some of the same things detailed here but probably doesn't have the subprime issue as the other "zircon" banks so for now I'll stay with them until things get stable in banking.

All of PNC mail goes to Pittsburg to be mailed. If your PNC bank is in Salisbury and you live in FruitLand the mail still go to PITTSBURG,PA. Doesn't make sense to me.

Funny, i just got charged 6 over draft fees today and yesterday for no reason. I am getting them refunded, but once i am back in town next week i am switching banks

Farmer's Bank and Bank of Delmarva are the best local banks. They have great CD rates, and provide reasonable loan rates to local businesses. The staff at both are great, as well.

My vote is for SECU. Best rates around and just about anyone can join. Just find a relative that's a vol fireman, or any other kind of civil servant. An employee of any college, and some major companies.

I have a busines account at PNC and I'm ready to kick them to the curb. When they took over, on my interest bearing accounts, the rate of return was cut in half. No anouncement as to why. So they won't get any anouncement when I close my accounts.

Maybe if you take a second and look at PNC stock prices you would realize that two weeks ago that hit a 52 week high, in the middle of the biggest banking crisis in American history. I feel sake with my money there. Could it be that PNC and Mercantile stuck to doing it the old way--- Sure you can have a loan but first you have to prove you can pay it back.

So I guess what is being said here, it determines the amount before we should determine guilt.
Years ago, an Atlanta banker took
pennies from every account and folks it turned into millions. Its called checks and balances, its called accountability. Thats exactly what we are fighting in this city and county.

Well, I gotta tell you the people that work at PNC in the Twilley Center are wonderful. They were great when they were Peninsula, Mercantile, whatever, and they're still great. I opened an account with my 12 year old son, and they treat him with as much respect as they treat all their customers. Stop picking on people for doing their job! I have three accounts with them and have never had a problem.

Someone mentioned a guy getting rich off pennies that added up and I am instantly reminded of that movie "Office Space",where three bored cubicle dwellers hatch a plan to skim "fractions of a penny" from different client accounts and transfer them to a bank account for themselves.LOL

I never had trouble with the employees, just the corporate office. The local personnel were wonderful.
