Annapolis - Today, the congressional moratorium on off-shore drilling expired. With expiration of the moratorium, billions of barrels of oil and natural gas will now be accessible to help alleviate the United States' dependence on foreign oil.
"The expiration of the moratorium is a victory for Maryland families paying high energy costs," said Andy Harris. Lifting the ban will lower energy costs hardworking families pay which will in turn stimulate our struggling economy.
Andy Harris has advocated for an all of the above energy solution including opening new areas to domestic exploration of oil and natural gas, developing the next generation of alternative energy technology, and encouraging more conservation.
"Our nation must become energy independent." Harris said. "The United States can no longer afford to send hundreds of millions of dollars to nations like Russia, Venezuela, and Iran who are not friendly to the United States."
In contrast, Andy Harris' opponent, Frank Kratovil, refuses to support increasing our domestic supply of oil and natural gas. "Frank Kratovil's opposition to increasing domestic production of oil and natural gas is hurting Maryland families," said Chris Meekins, Harris Campaign Manager. "Kratovil's opposition to expanding production clearly shows he is beholden to radical liberal special interest groups who have given thousands of dollars to his campaign."
Kratovil's own words on off-shore drilling:
"I don't think we need any new spots to drill".(WYPR Interview on 6/13/2008)
"Don't open up new areas." Star Democrat, 7/23/08
"Off-shore drilling is a red herring," - Star Democrat, 7/29/2008

I dont know where you ripped this from but off-shore oil fields are not open until the senate, president, and the individual states also approve.
How ignorant are people who don't want to uncover all the sources of energy we have here at home? We as a race of humans, consume more energy than any other living thing on the planet. We as Americans use 25% of the world's oil. Of course we should drill our own supplies. Of courese we should build our own refineries, of course we should pursue all means of new energies as well. We need to do all of it.
Drill Baby Drill!!!!!!!!
Your Kratovil quote is incomplete. Frank said that we don't need to drill new areas until we capitalize on the existing areas that haven't been drilled yet.
Of course, being a Republican shill, and and Andy Harris apologist, you only tell half the truth.
But, if Andy wants to drill, drill, drill, then he needs to come out with a press conference asking to build new derricks right off the coast of O.C. I want to see a full press conference on it, or he's full of sh*t.
Does anyone wonder why we don't drill in the existing areas set aside for it? Maybe because there isn't really any oil there!!! These lands were deeded years ago and most of it is barren. You think the money-hungry oil companies wouldn't be drilling if there were oil available? C'mon...

Come on... we (the U.S.) know where the oil is. Its the tree huggers that hold up the drilling. Its the Oil compamies that want to wait longer until the US is in mor needm for American oil to the pay the politicians to let them drill. (most likely under the table)
America has oil, and we need to start using it. Who cares if it wont help our dependency for 10-15 years. What happens then? Start now to help our future.

I love how the Kratovil people keep bringing up that Andy wants oil rigs right off Ocean City...what a crock!!! Clearly, the offshore oil in the Atlantic is on the continental shelf, which is hundreds of miles offshore. Also, wouldn't OC just turn it into another tourist attraction?
