Crime Task Force Raises Important Question

At Yesterdays meeting of the Crime Task Force an important question was raised by Lt. Daniel Nelson of the Maryland State Police.."Why only 3 months to study crime" He recommended to the task force an ongoing effort to fight crime and not limit it to the 90 days that the mayor recommended for the study. I think all readers are well aware of why this has been limited in time, because an election is coming up in spring. Through the hard work of Debbie Campbell's subcommittee a joint trip to Dover to study why crime is so much lower when our populations are so similar was announced, she also got a company called spotcrime.com to do a free mapping of local crime ..which would save the city the money they pay for the service currently. Mary Ahanti head of the Wicomico County NAACP also had some great ideas on several town hall type meetings in November with various communities represented. While a report was passed out from SPD that claimed crime was down compared to last year, the headlines in the paper and the people in the streets feel differently.

update:
The Daily Times article this morning has completely made this venture look like Ryan Ewalts Initiative. The fact was Debbie Campbells Subcommittee did so much work the first few weeks by hitting the streets making a website and actually accomplishing goals like the holiday initiative that Ryan asked to join her task force as he had done nothing. The quote about the 3 months came from as i stated Lt Nelson of MSP. Its these misrepresentations of facts by the daily times that have so many people cancelling their subscriptions.

You should write for the Daily Times. Did you see their coverage this morning? No mention of Nelson. I was at the first meeting and the push to give the public some relief this year in a typically high crime season came from Campbell. The paper must think that Campbell is spelled with an Ewalt. They think that Nelson is spelled Ewalt too.

The crime is Salisbury alone is awful. Cant believe that they are spending money on the task force when they have lots of documentation of the crime. Maybe if the higher ups would listen and I mean actually listen to the community MAYBE something would then get done about the crime. Like higher and retain GOOD cops and restructure the WHOLE PD. Get rid of the higher ups that are creating this inferior attitude to the community and their officers.

You beat violence by meeting it with greater violence. They beat you, you shot them. Would the world really miss any of these low life pieces of shit, dont think so. This country needs a cleaning, scary thought but war is ugly people. Make no mistake we are at WAR.

Let's be very wary of comparing Salisbury to Dover because of their significant differences, starting with the fact that one is a state capital.

How about this, You get arrested for a drug or gun crime and you are no longer allowed to live in the city limits of salisbury. That will push them into the county where a real police chief,(LEWIS) will bust their asses. If the landlords break the rules bust their asses to.
